1909–10 Northern Rugby Football Union Season
The 1909–10 Northern Rugby Football Union season was the 15th season of rugby league football. Season summary Aberdare, Barry and Mid-Rhondda had dropped out, leaving 28 teams. Oldham won their second Championship this season. After finishing top of the regular season table, they went on to beat Wigan 13-7 in the play-off final. The Challenge Cup Winners were Leeds who defeated Hull F.C. 26-12 in replay after a 7-7 draw. At the close of the season, the Northern Union's leading players were selected to go on the 1910 Great Britain Lions tour of Australia and New Zealand. Oldham won the Lancashire League, and Wakefield Trinity won the Yorkshire League. Wigan beat Leigh 22–5 to win the Lancashire Cup, and Huddersfield beat Batley 21–0 to win the Yorkshire County Cup. Oldham is a large town in Greater Manchester, England, amid the Pennines and between the rivers Irk and Medlock, southeast of Rochdale and northeast of Manchester. The Widnes Vikings are an English rugby league club in Widnes, Cheshire, which competes in the Betfred Championship. The club plays home matches at the Halton Stadium. Ebbw Vale Rugby League Football Club was a professional rugby league club based in Ebbw Vale, Wales playing in the Welsh League and Northern Union. Based at Eugene Cross Park, Bridge End Field, Ebbw Vale were one of the first professional Welsh teams, and the last to disband in 1912 after the failure of the Welsh League. Runcorn is an industrial town and Runcorn Docks, cargo port in the Borough of Halton in Cheshire, England. Its population in 2011 was 61,789. The Warrington Wolves are a professional rugby league club based in Warrington, England, that competes in the Super League. They play rugby at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, having moved there from Wilderspool in 2004. The Keighley Cougars are a professional rugby league club from Keighley in West Yorkshire, England who compete in League 1, the third tier of English rugby league. Keighley's home ground, Cougar Park has a capacity of 7,800. History Early years The club was formed at a meeting held on 17 October 1876 under the presidency of the Reverend Marriner. A committee was elected and the club was allowed the use of Holmes' field in Lawkholme Lane.
