1906–07 Burslem Port Vale F.C. Season
The 1906–07 season was Burslem Port Vale's ninth consecutive season (13th overall) of football in the English Football League. The club resigned from the league on 14 June 1907. On the pitch the team put in win or lose performances, and went for a club record 20 games – from 10 September 1906 to 19 January 1907 – without sharing the points (nine wins, eleven losses). Another record was set with a 7–1 win over Irthlingborough Town in the First Round of the FA Cup – their highest ever margin of victory in the competition. The club folded at the end of the season after the chairman decided that the club had no viable future. However Cobridge Church immediately took on the name of Port Vale, and worked their way back to the Football League for the 1919–20 season. Tommy Clare
Thomas Clare (12 March 1865 – 27 December 1929) was an English England national football team, international association football, footballer, who played at right-back, and football manager. He began his playing career with Stoke City F.C., Stoke in July 1884, having moved from Port Vale F.C., Burslem Port Vale. He spent the next fourteen years with Stoke, playing 251 games in all competitions, helping them to the Football Alliance title in 1890–91 Football Alliance, 1890–91. In 1897 he signed with Manchester City F.C., Manchester City via Port Vale, before returning to Vale for a three-year spell in 1898, helping them to the Staffordshire Senior Cup on his arrival. Thomas Coxon (10 June 1883 – 30 January 1942) was an English footballer who played in the English Football League for Burslem Port Vale, Stoke, Middlesbrough, Grimsby Town, and Leyton. Career Coxon played for Bradeley, before joining Burslem Port Vale in August 1902. He played two Second Division games in the 1902–03 season, and opened his account for the 1903–04 season with four goals in three games against Preston North End, Bradford City (2), and Grimsby Town. This made an impression on rivals Stoke, who bought him for a £200 fee in October 1903. William Dodds
William Dodds (born 1885; date of death unknown) was an English footballer who played at inside-right for Southwick, Burslem Port Vale, Oldham Athletic, and Linfield. Career Dodds played for Southwick, before joining Burslem Port Vale in June 1906. He scored on his debut in a 2–1 defeat to Leicester Fosse at the Athletic Ground on 1 September. He played in 42 games that season, bagging 14 goals in the process. However, in the summer of 1907 the club went into financial meltdown and were forced to release all of its players. Hughie Dunn
Hugh Dunn was a Scottish footballer. His year of birth is uncertain, being given as 1878 in some sources and 1875 in others. He played at right-back for Johnstone, Preston North End, Bristol Rovers, and Burslem Port Vale. Whilst with Bristol Rovers, he won the Southern Football League championship in 1904–05. Career Dunn played for local club Johnstone, before moving south of the border to play for Preston North End. He joined Bristol Rovers in 1901, as the club posted a ninth-place finish in the Southern League in 1901–02. The "Pirates" then finished fifth in 1902–03 and third in 1903–04, before winning the league title in 1904–05 after finishing five points clear of runners-up Reading.
