The 1905 Washington football team was an American football team that represented the University of Washington during the 1905 college football season. In its first season under coach Oliver Cutts, the team compiled a 5–2–2 record and outscored its opponents by a combined total of 96 to 52. Tom McDonald was the team captain. Oliver Cutts
Oliver Frost Cutts (August 6, 1873 – August 4, 1939) was an American football player, coach, and college athletics administrator. He served as the head football coach at Purdue University (1903–1904), the University of Washington (1905), and Bates College (1922–1923), compiling a career college football record of 23–18–3. Cutts was also the athletic director at Purdue from 1904 to 1905 and again from 1915 to 1918. He died on August 4, 1939 at his home in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. Denny Field (Washington)
Denny Field is located on the campus of the University of Washington in Seattle. It was the home grounds for the university's football team for a quarter-century, from 1895 until 1920. Washington compiled an overall home record of 87 wins, 15 losses, and 13 ties () on the field including an NCAA record 59–0–4 winning streak from 1907 to 1917. On Saturday, November 6, 1920, the final game at Denny Field was played, a 3–0 loss to Stanford; the only scoring was a drop-kicked field goal in the second quarter. American Football
American football (referred to simply as football in the United States and Canada), also known as gridiron, is a team sport played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end. 1905 College Football Season
The 1905 college football season had the Chicago Maroons retroactively named as national champion by the Billingsley Report, the Helms Athletic Foundation, the National Championship Foundation, and the Houlgate System, while Yale was named champion by Parke H. Davis and Caspar Whitney. Chicago finished the season 11–0, while Yale finished 10–0. The first USS ''Chicago'' (later CA-14) was a protected cruiser of the United States Navy, the largest of the original three authorized by Congress for the "New Navy" and one of the U.S. Navy's first four steel ships. Chemawa Indian School
Chemawa Indian School is a Native American boarding school in Salem, Oregon, United States. Named after the Chemawa band of the Kalapuya people of the Willamette Valley, it opened on February 25, 1880 as an elementary school. Grades were added and dropped, and it became a fully accredited high school in 1927, when lower grades were dropped. In 2005, it continued to serve ninth through twelfth grades. Sherman Indian High School (SIHS) is an off-reservation boarding high school for Native Americans. Originally opened in 1892 as the Perris Indian School, in Perris, California, the school was relocated to Riverside, California in 1903, under the name Sherman Institute. When the school was accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges in 1971, it became known as Sherman Indian High School.
