1904 VFL Grand Final
The 1904 VFL Grand Final was an Australian rules football game contested between the Fitzroy Football Club and Carlton Football Club, held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne on 17 September 1904. It was the seventh annual Grand Final of the Victorian Football League, staged to determine the premiers for the 1904 VFL season. The match, attended by 32,688 spectators, was won by Fitzroy by a margin of 24 points, marking that club's third premiership victory. Right to challenge This season was played under the amended ''Argus'' system. Fitzroy was the minor premier, and Carlton had finished second. The teams both qualified for this match by winning their semi-finals matches. If Carlton had won this match, Fitzroy would have had the right to challenge Carlton to a rematch for the premiership on the following weekend, because Fitzroy had the best record in the league. Ern Jenkins
Ernest Merrett Jenkins (4 October 1879 – 21 December 1927) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Fitzroy Football Club, coach of the Richmond Football Club and an umpire in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Herbert Milne
Herbert "Boxer" Milne (8 February 1884 – 20 December 1930) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Fitzroy Football Club and South Melbourne Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the early 1900s. Family The son of John Milne (1855-1921), and Mary Lavinia Milne, née Landorf, Herbert Milne was born at Benalla, Victoria on 8 February 1884. One of his two brothers, Hector Norman Milne (1880-1960), who played two seasons (1899-1900) with Richmond and two seasons with North Melbourne (1902-1903) in the VFA, enlisted in the First AIF (Service no.953) and lost an eye from a bayonet wound whilst serving. Percival George "Percy" Trotter (1 September 1883 – 27 August 1959) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Fitzroy Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL), Essendon Association in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) and East Fremantle in the West Australian Football League (WAFL). Percy Sheehan
Henry Percival Sheehan (5 July 1883 – 30 May 1946) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Fitzroy Football Club, Carlton Football Club and Richmond Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Originally from local side Caulfield Juniors, Sheehan made his senior VFL debut in 1904 and was a member of Fitzroy premiership teams that year and 1905. Shehan played in a variety of positions during his career but was used mostly as a half back flanker. In 1910 he left the club and moved to Carlton, finishing the season with a Grand Final loss to Collingwood Football Club. The game was full of brawls and Sheehan, who was seen as one of the main instigators, was suspended for a season and a half (28 games). Gerald Brosnan (14 August 1877 – 29 July 1965) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Fitzroy Football Club in the early years of the Victorian Football League (VFL). He played as a key position forward and had an accurate left foot kick. Family Jeremiah Brosnan was born to Irish immigrants Patrick Brosnan and Ellen Berryman in 1877, however for most his adult life he used the name Gerald. Football Brosnan originally tried out with Geelong in 1894 and Essendon in 1895 but was let go by both sides. He then moved to Ballarat Football Club in 1896, playing for them until 1899.
