1903 United States Gubernatorial Elections
United States gubernatorial elections were held in 1903, in eight states. Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland and Mississippi held their gubernatorial elections in Off-year election, odd numbered years, every 4 years, preceding the United States presidential election year. Massachusetts and Rhode Island both elected its governors to a single-year term, which they would abandon in 1920 and 1912, respectively. Ohio at this time held gubernatorial elections in every odd numbered year. In Iowa, following a 1904 amendment to the constitution moving the election schedule, the governor's term was lengthened to three years. Kentucky
Kentucky ( , ), officially the Commonwealth of Kentucky, is a state in the Southeastern region of the United States and one of the states of the Upper South. 1904 Louisiana Gubernatorial Election
The 1904 Louisiana gubernatorial election was held on April 19, 1904. Like most Southern states between Reconstruction and the civil rights era, Louisiana's Republican Party had virtually no electoral support. As Louisiana had not yet adopted party primaries, this meant that the Democratic Party convention nomination vote was the real contest over who would be governor. Edwin Warfield
Edwin Warfield (May 7, 1848March 31, 1920) was an American politician and a member of the United States Democratic Party, and the 45th Governor of Maryland in the United States from 1904 to 1908. Early life Edwin Warfield was born to Albert G. Warfield and Margaret Gassaway Warfield at the "Oakdale" plantation in Howard County, Maryland. He received early education at the public schools of Howard County and at St. Timothy's Hall (formerly an Episcopal Church institution, now known as St. Timothy's School) in Catonsville, Maryland, a "streetcar suburb", southwest of Baltimore in Baltimore County. In 1877 he became a professor at Maryland's Agricultural College. Although Maryland was a Union State, many families were southern sympathizers, two of Warfield's brothers served in the Confederate States Army.
