Charley Moran
Charles Barthell Moran (February 22, 1878 – June 14, 1949), nicknamed "Uncle Charley", was an American sportsman who gained renown as both a catcher and umpire (baseball), umpire in Major League Baseball and as a college football, collegiate and professional American football coach. Early life Moran was born in Nashville, Tennessee to an Protestantism in Ireland, Irish Protestant family. The 1901 Sewanee Tigers football team was an American football team that represented the Sewanee Tigers of Sewanee: The University of the South as an independent during the 1901 college football season. In its third season under head coach Billy Suter, the team compiled a 4–2–2 record. Sewanee was a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association during the majority of the 1901 season. However, the association indefinitely suspended Sewanee on November 26, 1901, for allowing an ineligible player to participate in the November 16 game against Vanderbilt. 1901 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association Football Season
The 1901 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association football season was the college football games played by the member schools of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association as part of the 1901 college football season. The season began on September 28. Amidst charges of professionalism, Georgia Tech and Nashville were blacklisted. The 1901 game of LSU versus Tulane eventually ended up as a forfeiture. Tulane forfeited the game the November 16 due to a ruling from the SIAA. The 1901 edition of the Battle for the Flag against LSU was originally a 22-0 victory for Tulane. It was later forfeited after a petition to the SIAA, and was recorded as a 0-11 loss for Tulane. After the game, LSU protested to the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association, and alleged that Tulane had used a professional player during the game. John Edgerton
John Emmett Edgerton (October 2, 1879 – August 4, 1938) was an industrialist who gained prominence as the president of the National Association of Manufacturers from 1921 to 1931. Edgerton was also an All-Southern college football fullback for the Vanderbilt Commodores of Vanderbilt University. Early years Edgerton was born on October 2, 1879 in Johnston County, North Carolina to Gabriel Griffin Edgerton and his wife Harriet Copeland but moved to Lebanon, Tennessee, to join his older brother, Howard K. Ormond Simkins (May 16, 1879 – December 4, 1921) was an American football and baseball player for the Sewanee Tigers of Sewanee: The University of the South. He was the son of William Stewart Simkins, who may have fired the first shot of the American Civil War. Early years Ormond was born on May 16, 1879 in Corsicana, Texas to William Stewart Simkins and Elizabeth Ware. Sewanee Ormond entered Sewanee in 1896 as a law student.
