1900–01 Copa Macaya
The 1900–01 Copa Macaya was the 1st staging of the Copa Macaya. This tournament is best known for being the very first football competition played on the Iberian Peninsula. The competition was held on the road between 20 January 1901 and ended on 14 April, and it was won by Hispania AC, narrowly beating FC Barcelona by just two points. Overview In December 1900, Alfonso Macaya, the then president of Hispania AC, offered a trophy (the Copa Macaya) to the winners of a tournament played on the road featuring six teams from Catalonia: FC Barcelona (1899), Hispania AC (1900), Club Tarragona, Sociedad Franco-Española (1900), Club Espanyol (now RCD Espanyol), and SD Santanach (1900). However, the latter dissolved in the mid-time, with most of its players joining Espanyol, who themselves withdrew from the tournament after the fourth game, thus being disqualified. Enrique Morris
Enrique Ramón Morris de Olea, also known as Henry Morris or Morris II (1874 - Unknown), was an Anglo-Filipino football pioneer and a prominent forward for FC Barcelona. His brothers, Samuel and Miguel, also played football, and together with them, he was one of the first pioneers of football in Catalonia, playing for several experimental teams in the 1890s such as ''Barcelona Football Club'' and ''Sociedad de Foot-Ball de Barcelona''. His brothers also played for Barcelona, being the first Filipinos to join FC Barcelona ahead of the likes of Manuel Amechazurra and Paulino Alcántara. Hat-trick
A hat-trick or hat trick is the achievement of a generally positive feat three times in a match, or another achievement based on the number three. Origin The term first appeared in 1858 in cricket, to describe H. H. Stephenson taking three wickets with three consecutive deliveries. Fans held a collection for Stephenson, and presented him with a hat bought with the proceeds. The term was used in print for the first time in 1865 in the ''Chelmsford Chronicle''. John Hamilton (Barcelona Footballer)
John Hamilton (7 February 1876 – 10 April 1947) was a Scottish footballer who played as a goalkeeper and defender for Spanish club FC Barcelona. The dates of his birth and death are unknown. Although little has been recorded of his life, he was one of the most important figures in the amateur beginnings of football in Catalonia, being noted for his prominent role in promoting football in the city and as the main driving force of Escocès FC, a team made up of Scottish workers from a Sant Andreu factory, which he served as its captain. He was a member of the side that won the very first official title in Spanish football, the 1900–01 Copa Macaya with Hispania AC. Willie Gold
William Gold, better known as Willie Gold, was a Scottish footballer. He is best known for being the victim of the very first red card shown in Spanish football. Gold was also a member of the side that won the very first Spanish club to win an official title, the 1900–01 Copa Macaya with Hispania AC. Biography Willie Gold was born in Newmilns, where he was introduced to football and to his wife, providing for his family as a textile worker employee at lace manufacturers Johnston, Shields & Co. He was eventually promoted to be in charge of a production line, and the experience he gained as such served him to continue working as a manager. Peter Mauchan
Peter Mauchan (1882 – 5 November 1943) was a Scottish footballer who played for Spanish club FC Barcelona at the turn of the century. He was part of the infamous group of Scottish workers that formed Escocès FC. Peter is often confused with his younger brother, David Mauchan, who is often wrongly credited with being the one who played for Escocès FC and FC Barcelona, which is not possible as David was only born in 1895. Early life Peter Mauchan was born in Glasgow in 1882, as the son of William Mauchan, a football referee, and Elizabeth Stewart. Due to his father's textile profession, the family moved to Nottingham between 1884 and 1887. George Girvan, often called Geordie Girvan (13 June 1878 – 3 July 1968), was a Scottish footballer who played as a forward for Spanish club FC Barcelona.
