The 1900 VMI Keydets football team represented the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in their tenth season of organized football. The Keydets went 4–1–2 under their new head coach Sam Walker. The team's All-Southern Tackle was George C. Marshall, who went on to serve as Army Chief of Staff during World War II, and Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense under President Truman. The VMI–Virginia Tech football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the Keydets of Virginia Military Institute and the Hokies of Virginia Tech (formerly known as the Virginia Polytechnic Institute "Fighting Gobblers"). The teams first played in 1894 and last played in 1984. They are scheduled to meet again in 2026, after a 42-year hiatus. The two schools are only about 80 miles apart in western Virginia and were in the same conference (the Southern Conference) from 1924 to 1964. The 1900 VPI football team represented Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College and Polytechnic Institute in the 1900 college football season. The team was led by their head coach Eugene Davis and finished with a record of three wins, three losses, and one tie (3–3–1). Hunter Carpenter used the alias "Walter Brown" because his father had forbidden him to play football. It was not until his father saw him play in a game in 1900 against Virginia Military Institute in Norfolk, Virginia did he approve. The 1900 Virginia Orange and Blue football team represented the University of Virginia as an independent during the 1900 college football season. Led by second-year coach Archie Hoxton, the team went 7–2–1 and claims a Southern championship. The team was captained by tackle John Loyd.
