1899 Georgia Bulldogs Football Team
The 1899 Georgia Bulldogs football team represented the Georgia Bulldogs of the University of Georgia during the 1899 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association football season. The team competed as a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA) and completed the season with a disappointing 2–3–1 record. However, a season highlight was the third-straight victory over Georgia Tech. 1899 also saw the first meeting between the Georgia Bulldogs and Tennessee (a loss for Georgia). Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Football Seasons
This is a list of seasons completed by the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football team of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). Since the team's creation in 1892, the Yellow Jackets have participated in more than 1,100 officially sanctioned games, including 39 bowl games. The Yellow Jackets have been a member of numerous athletic conferences. In 1894, Tech was a founding member of the now defunct Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association, where it won a national championship in 1917. In 1922, the Yellow Jackets joined the Southern Conference as a founding member, where it won a national championship in 1928. In 1933, Tech joined the Southeastern Conference as a founding member, where it won a national championship in 1952. From 1964 to 1978, the Yellow Jackets competed as an independent. Clemson–Georgia Tech Football Rivalry
The Clemson–Georgia Tech football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the Clemson Tigers football team of Clemson University and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football team of Georgia Tech. Both schools are members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Since conference expansion in 2005, Clemson represents the Atlantic Division while Georgia Tech plays in the Coastal Division, and they are official cross-divisional rivals which play every year. Clemson won the first four games of the rivalry, but Georgia Tech leads the all-time series 51–32–2. The 1899 Clemson Tigers football team represented Clemson Agricultural College—now known as Clemson University–during the 1899 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association football season. The Tigers completed their fourth season with a record of 4–2, with wins over Davidson, South Carolina, North Carolina A&M, and Georgia Tech and losses to Georgia and Auburn. Piedmont Park
Piedmont Park is an urban park in Atlanta, Georgia, located about northeast of Downtown, between the Midtown and Virginia Highland neighborhoods. Originally the land was owned by Dr. Benjamin Walker, who used it as his out-of-town gentleman's farm and residence. He sold the land in 1887 to the Gentlemen's Driving Club (later renamed the Piedmont Driving Club), who wanted to establish an exclusive club and racing ground for horse enthusiasts. The Driving Club entered an agreement with the Piedmont Exposition Company, headed by prominent Atlantan Charles A. Collier, to use the land for fairs and expositions and later gave the park its name. The 1899 Sewanee Tigers football team represented Sewanee: The University of the South in the 1899 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association football season. Sewanee was one of the first college football powers of the South and the 1899 team was one of its best. The 1899 Tigers won 12 games and lost none, outscored opponents 322–10, and won the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA) title. The team of 21 players was led by head coach Herman "Billy" Suter and future College Football Hall of Famer and captain Henry "Ditty" Seibels. The team also featured Ormond Simkins, and the team's manager was future US Senator and newspaper publisher Luke Lea. The 11 extra points against by Bart Sims is still a school record. The Auburn–Georgia Tech football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the Auburn Tigers and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Auburn leads the series 47–41–4. Series history The first game took place on November 25, 1892, in Atlanta, Georgia. They played in the SIAA until it was defunct in 1922, before joining the Southeastern Conference. Georgia Tech left the SEC in 1963, playing as an independent until joining the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1980. Despite no longer being conference opponents, they played annually until 1987. The rivalry was renewed for a home and home series played in 2003 and 2005. There are no future games currently scheduled.
