The 1898 Argentine Primera División was the 7th season of top division football in Argentina. It was won by Lomas, achieving its 5th Argentine championship in 6 seasons. The runner-up was Lobos. Flores AC and Belgrano AC "B" left the championship, being replaced by Lobos -which returned to the Association- and new team United Banks. Lomas (Spanish for "hills"), also called fog oases and mist oases, are areas of fog-watered vegetation in the coastal desert of Peru and northern Chile. About 100 lomas near the Pacific Ocean are identified between 5°S and 30°S latitude, a north–south distance of about . Lobos Athletic Club
Lobos Athletic Club is an Argentine sports club based in the city of Lobos, Buenos Aires. Although other sports were practised at the club, Lobos Athletic is mostly known for its football team, who took part in the Primera División championships until its disaffection, being runner-up in 1898 and 1899. Nowadays Lobos AC plays in "Liga Lobense de Fútbol", a regional league of Buenos Aires Province. Apart from football, other sports sections of the club are field hockey, basketball and volleyball. Club Atlético Banfield is an Argentine sports club based in the Banfield district of Greater Buenos Aires. It was founded on 21 January 1896, by the British–origin inhabitants of that city (mostly English, and some Scots and Irish).
