The 1897 Chicago Maroons football team was an American football team that represented the University of Chicago during the 1897 Western Conference football season. In their sixth season under head coach Amos Alonzo Stagg, the Maroons compiled an 11–1 record, finished in second place in the Western Conference with a 3–1 record against conference opponents, and outscored their opponents by a combined total of 331 to 68. Illinois Field was a stadium in Champaign, Illinois. It hosted the Illinois Fighting Illini football team until they moved to the Memorial Stadium (Champaign), Memorial Stadium in 1923 and the school's baseball team until they moved to the current Illinois Field in 1988. Maurice Gordon Clarke (May 2, 1877 – June 5, 1944) was an American football and baseball player and coach. The Omaha, Nebraska native served as head football coach at the University of Texas at Austin in 1899, at Western Reserve University—now a part of Case Western Reserve University—in 1900, and at Washington University in St. Louis, compiling a career college football record of 15–8–3. He was also the head baseball coach at Texas in the spring of 1900, tallying a mark of 14–2–1. Clarke was a graduate of the University of Chicago and played quarterback for the Chicago Maroons from 1896 to 1898 teams under Amos Alonzo Stagg. He also lettered in baseball at Chicago. Makawao Union Church is a church near Makawao on the Hawaiian island of Maui. It was founded by New England missionary Jonathan Smith Green during the Kingdom of Hawaii. The third historic structure used by the congregation was designed by noted local architect C.W. Dickey and dedicated in 1917 as the Henry Perrine Baldwin Memorial Church.
