The 1894 VAMC football team represented Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College in the 1894 college football season. The team was led by their head coach Joseph Massie and finished with a record of four wins and one loss (4–1). Schedule Players The following players were members of the 1894 football team according to the roster published in the 1895 and 1903 editions of ''The Bugle'', the Virginia Tech yearbook. Season summary Emory and Henry VAMC played their first game of the year on October 20, 1894 against Emory and Henry College at their new athletic field, Sheib Field, in front of 400 spectators. VAMC won the toss and scored their first touchdown three minutes into the game, with VAMC halfback Harvey running into the end zone, with R. N. Watts missing the extra point. VMI–Virginia Tech Football Rivalry
The VMI–Virginia Tech football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the Keydets of Virginia Military Institute and the Hokies of Virginia Tech (formerly known as the Virginia Polytechnic Institute "Fighting Gobblers"). The teams first played in 1894 and last played in 1984. They are scheduled to meet again in 2026, after a 42-year hiatus. The two schools are only about 80 miles apart in western Virginia and were in the same conference (the Southern Conference) from 1924 to 1964. 1894 College Football Season
The 1894 college football season was the season of American football played among colleges and universities in the United States during the 1894–95 academic year. The 1894 Yale Bulldogs football team compiled a perfect 16–0 record, outscored opponents by a total of 485 to 13, and has been recognized as the national champion by the Billingsley Report, Helms Athletic Foundation, and National Championship Foundation, and as co-champion by Parke H. Davis. Penn also compiled a perfect record (12–0) and was recognized as the co-national champion by Parke H. Davis. Despite suffering losses to both Yale and Penn, Princeton was recognized as the national champion under the Houlgate System. VMI Keydets Football Seasons
The following is a list of seasons completed by the VMI Keydets football team. Representing the Virginia Military Institute, the Keydets compete in the Southern Conference of the NCAA Division I. VMI competed in the SoCon for 79 years from 1924 to 2002, and moved to the Big South in 2003, but returned to the SoCon beginning in the 2014–2015 academic year. The Keydets have played their home games out of 10,000-seat Alumni Memorial Field since 1962. The Keydets will be led beginning in 2023 by head coach Danny Rocco. Though VMI played their first intercollegiate football game in 1873 against Washington and Lee University, the first official team was fielded in 1891 under coach Walter H. Taylor III. The program was successful early on, notching two undefeated seasons in 1894 and 1899, and another 9–0 campaign in 1920.
