1884–85 British Home Championship
The 1884–85 British Home Championship was the second football tournament between the Home Nations and was, like the previous competition, won by a Scottish team which completely dominated proceedings. The English also performed well, beginning with a strong victory over Ireland but failing to capitalise on this start with 1–1 draws with Wales and Scotland. The Welsh thrashed Ireland 8–1 but were well beaten 8–2 by the Scots who won their final game in a similar scoreline against the Irish, who finished last having conceded 20 goals in three games. The Scots, who had scored 16 goals two games, would win (individually or shared) six of the first seven tournaments. William Anderson (Scottish Footballer)
William Anderson (born 25 April 1862) was a Scottish footballer who played as a right winger. He played club football for Queen's Park and appeared in the sides that won the Scottish Cup in 1881, 1882 and 1884, and finished as runners-up in the English FA Cup in 1884 and 1885. He made his international debut for Scotland on 11 March 1882 and went on to play six matches in the next three years, never ending on the losing side. __NOTOC__ William Peirce Dix (1853 - 1924) was a British sports administrator, accountant, stockbroker, and political operative. Early life Dix was born in Ecclesall in late 1853, the son of publisher William Henry Dix and his wife Harriet. He was baptized on 1 January 1854 Football administrator Dix served as secretary of the Sheffield Football Association from 1876 to 1881, and as treasurer until 1885. He also served as vice-president of the Sheffield Association from 1882 until 1885. Dix also served on the committee of the Football Association from 1877 to 1883; he served as one of two vice-presidents of that body from 1883 until 1885.
