1876 Scotland Vs Wales Football Match
The 1876 association football match between the national teams representing Scotland and Wales was the first game played by the latter side. It took place on 25 March 1876 at Hamilton Crescent, Partick, the home ground of the West of Scotland Cricket Club. The match was also the first time that Scotland had played against a side other than England. The fixture was organised by Llewelyn Kenrick, who had founded the Football Association of Wales (FAW) only a few weeks earlier in response to a letter published in '' The Field''. Advertisements were placed in several sporting journals for Welsh players, or those with more than three years residence in the country, to come forward and the Welsh team was selected after trial matches were held at the Racecourse Ground in Wrexham. South Wales
South Wales ( cy, De Cymru) is a loosely defined region of Wales bordered by England to the east and mid Wales to the north. Foot-Ball Club
The Foot-Ball Club was a football club, in Edinburgh, Scotland, formed in 1824. The club met in the summer months to play a form of football that did not resemble association football. Nevertheless, the organisation can claim to be the earliest recorded club playing football of any kind. A modern association football club with the same name was formed in 2007, in an attempt to revive the legacy of the old club. History The Foot-Ball Club of Edinburgh is thought to be one of the oldest recorded football clubs in the world with records going back to 1824. Between 1870 and 1872, the Football Association (FA) organised five representative association football matches between teams representing England and Scotland, all held in London.
