The Diet of Hungary or originally: Parlamentum Publicum / Parlamentum Generale ( hu, Országgyűlés) became the supreme legislative institution in the medieval kingdom of Hungary from the 1290s, and in its successor states, Royal Hungary and the Habsburg kingdom of Hungary throughout the Early Modern period until the end of World War II. The name of the legislative body was originally "Parlamentum" during the Middle Ages, the "Diet" expression gained mostly in the Early Modern period. It convened at regular intervals with interruptions from the 12th century to 1918, and again until 1946. The articles of the 1790 diet set out that the diet should meet at least once every 3 years, but, since the diet was called by the Habsburg monarchy, this promise was not kept on several occasions thereafter. Ferenc Deák (politician)
Ferenc Deák de Kehida (archaically English: Francis Deak, hr, Franjo Deák; 17 October 180328 January 1876) was a Hungarian statesman and Minister of Justice. He was known as "The Wise Man of the Nation" and one of the greatest figures of Hungary's liberal movement. He was an instrumental contributor to a number of major events in Hungarian history, including passing and support of the April laws, the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867 and the Hungarian Nationalities Law (1868). While generally supporting reformist policies, he was well recognized for finding and negotiating reasonable middle ground compromises between various extremist political factions throughout his career. Kálmán Ghyczy
Kálmán Ghyczy de Ghicz, Assakürt et Ablánczkürt (12 February 1808 – 28 February 1888) was a Hungarian politician, who served as Minister of Finance between 1874 and 1875. He became representative of Komárom County in 1843. During the Hungarian Revolution of 1848 he served as state secretary of the Ministry of Justice. After the defeat Ghyczy retired from the politics for a time. He was appointed Speaker of the House of Representatives in 1861. He didn't support the compromise with the Austrians. Later his views changed. Ghyczy founded a new party named the Central Party. Menyhért Count Lónyay de Nagylónya et Vásárosnamény (6 January 1822, in Nagylónya – 3 November 1884, in Budapest) was a Hungarian politician who served as Prime Minister of Hungary from 1871 to 1872. He was born to an aristocratic Protestant family, and studied law in Pest. He became a member of the Hungarian Diet in 1843, where he was a member of the opposition, though he also opposed the protectionist tariff system of Lajos Kossuth.
