Hans Peter Holm
Hans Peter Holm (17 June 1772 – 26 October 1812)Topsøe-Jensen, pp. 598–601. was a Danish naval officer who commanded vessels of the Dano-Norwegian Navy in several actions. He commanded several naval vessels during the Gunboat War. His most important action occurred in 1812 at the Battle of Lyngør when a British squadron, led by the British ship-of-the-line , destroyed his vessel, . Holm sustained wounds in the battle but survived, only to drown in an accident shortly afterwards. Biography Holm was born 17 June 1772 at Søholm, north of Copenhagen, to ship's master Peter Holm (1725–1786) and Christence Morslet (1744–1819). In 1807 he married Marie Heegaard (1791–1860), daughter of a plantation owner in St Croix in the Danish West Indies (DWI; now the US Virgin Islands). He died 26 October 1812 at Langesundsfjorden, Bamble, Telemark (SW of Oslo), and is buried in Langesund Church. Poul Skibsted
Poul Frederik (Povel Friderich) Skibsted (23 May 1753 – 21 September 1812) was a Danish Supreme Court attorney and public prosecutor general. He acted as prosecutor in the high-profile trials against Malthe Conrad Bruun and Peter Andreas Heiberg, which both resulted in them being exiled. He also functioned as director of the Danish Asiatic Company from 1789 to 1812. Early life and education Skibsted was born in Copenhagen, the son of brewer and wholesale merchant Michael Skibsted (1699–1775) and Johanne Angelberg (1719–72). He grew up in his parents' property at Niels Hemmingsens Gade 32. He earned his Candidate of Law degree from the University of Copenhagen in 1774. The property and associated brewery was later taken over by his elder brother Andreas Skibsted (1752–1812). Career Skibsted was already licensed as a Supreme Court attorney in 1775. Pierre Peschier
Pierre Peschier (1 November 1739 – 16 January 1812) was a Danish merchant. He founded a successful trading house in Copenhagen in 1768 which later fell victim to the economic crisis of the 1800s and closed in 1815. Peschier's former home at Holmens Kanal in Copenhagen, now known as the Peschier House, is part of Danske Bank's headquarters. Early life Peschier was born in Geneva in 1739 to Pierre Peschier and Marguerite Blisson. His father was a pharmacist. He apprenticed as a merchant and working in Portugal, the Netherlands and England in 1765-68 where he achieved a great knowledge of international trade, especially with respect to East Indian colonial goods. Successful years in Denmark In 1768, he was called to Denmark by Frédéric de Coninck for whom he worked for some years before establishing his own trading house. He was naturalized in 1776. Carl Balsgaard
Carl Vilhelm Balsgaard (24 December 1812, Copenhagen - 14 August 1893, Copenhagen) was a Danish painter; primarily of still-lifes. Biography His father was an accountant and auditor. He studied under Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, with the intent of becoming a figure painter, and won a small silver medal for live model drawing in 1841.Biographical notes
