17th Empire Awards
The 17th Empire Awards ceremony (officially known as the Jameson Empire Awards), presented by the British film magazine ''Empire'', honoured the best films of 2011 and took place on 25 March 2012 at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London, England. During the ceremony, the ''Empire'' presented Empire Awards in 13 categories as well as three honorary awards. The awards for The Art of 3D, the new Best Male Newcomer and Best Female Newcomer (replacing the Best Newcomer award) and the honorary Empire Legend Award were first introduced this year. English Radio DJ Lauren Laverne and ''Empire'' magazine's news editor Chris Hewitt co-hosted the show, marking the first time for each and the first time the show was co-hosted. The Empire Award for Best Newcomer (formerly known as Best Debut) was an Empire Award presented annually by the British film magazine ''Empire'' to honor a director with a breakthrough film or an actor who has delivered a breakthrough performance while working within the film industry. The Empire Award for Best Newcomer was first introduced at the 1st Empire Awards ceremony in 1996 with Bryan Singer receiving the award for his direction of ''The Usual Suspects'' and last presented at the 16th Empire Awards ceremony in 2011. The Done In 60 Seconds Award (abbreviated DISS) is an award presented annually by the British film magazine ''Empire'' to the winner of that year's Done In 60 Seconds Competition, in which participants recreate a known film in 60-seconds. The Done In 60 Seconds Award was first introduced at the 13th Empire Awards in 2008, with Nick Jesper from the United Kingdom receiving the award for his 60-second version of ''Titanic''. The competition was open for its first two years only to entries from the United Kingdom and has since become an international competition with each participating country selecting its own local winner (or number of finalists) which then joins the global shortlist of films, from which a panel of judges selects the global winner. Gareth James Edwards (born 13 July 1975) is a British filmmaker. Max Edward "Mark" Dinning (August 17, 1933 – March 22, 1986) was an American pop music singer. In February 1960, the song " Teen Angel", written by his sister Jean (Eugenia) and her husband Red Surrey, reached number one on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 singles chart. Jean and two of her sisters, Virginia and Lucille, comprised The Dinning Sisters, a popular singing trio in the 1940s. Additionally, Dinning is the uncle of Dean Dinning, bass guitarist for alternative rock band Toad the Wet Sprocket. London Film Museum
The London Film Museum, founded and created by Jonathan Sands in February 2008, is a museum dedicated to the British film industry. It was previously known as The Movieum of London and was originally situated in London County Hall, County Hall, but moved to a Covent Garden location in April 2012. It exhibits original props, costumes and sets from feature films. There was originally a section on how films are made, including information on all the major studios.
