17 Avenue SW is a major east–west arterial road in the southwest quadrant of the city of Calgary, Alberta. Between the Calgary Stampede Grounds and 14 Street SW, it is a commercial street—with bars, restaurants, nightclubs, and shops—which has been designated a List of Neighbourhoods in Calgary#Business revitalization zones, Business Revitalization Zone, officially named 17th Ave Retail and Entertainment District. From 14th Street to Sarcee Trail, it is flanked by a mix of residential and commercial space, with small strip malls, a retirement home, and denser commercial developments in the Westbrook Mall area. West of Sarcee Trail, it runs through suburban neighbourhoods and acreages, by Rundle College Society, Rundle College and Westside Recreation Centre. Macleod Trail
Macleod Trail is a major road in Calgary, Alberta. It is a six- to eight-lane principal arterial road extending from downtown Calgary to the south of the city, where it merges into Highway 2. South of Anderson Road, Macleod Trail is an expressway and is slated to be upgraded to a freeway in the future. It is named for its destination to the south, Fort Macleod. Red Mile
The Red Mile is the name given to a stretch of 17 Avenue SW in Calgary, Alberta, Canada during the Calgary Flames 2004 Stanley Cup playoff run, which ended with a loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning in seven games in the finals. It gained worldwide notoriety both for the relative lack of violence while upwards of 55,000 fans celebrated their team's success. The 'Red' originates from the home team colour of the Calgary Flames' jerseys, red, similarly characterized by the 'Sea of Red' seen at many home games in the Saddledome; 'Sea of Red' and 'C of Red' (for the Flames' flaming C) is a play on words. 69 Street station is a CTrain light rail station in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is the sixth and terminal station on the West LRT line. The station was opened for the public on December 8, 2012, as part of a preview of the new West Line with an opening ceremony for the line. Revenue service started on December 10, 2012. Westbrook is the third station on the West LRT line of the CTrain light rail system in Calgary, Alberta. The station, along with the rest of the line, opened on December 10, 2012. However, on December 8, 2012, it was opened as a preview for the public to use. The station is located underground beside 33 Street SW between Bow Trail and 17 Avenue SW, 4 km from the 7 Avenue & 9 Street SW Interlocking. The station, along with associated office block above it, occupies the site of the former Ernest Manning High School, which closed in June 2011, and a former Petro-Canada service station that closed in 2009. The school and station were demolished to make room for this station and a new school (using the same name) was built 3.5 kilometres away near the 69 Street SW station. Centre Street is a major road in Calgary, Alberta, and defines the east and west halves of the city for the purposes of street addresses (i.e. NW, SW, NE, SE). Route description The main segment of Centre Street is an arterial road that extends from 9 Avenue S, at the base of the Calgary Tower in Downtown Calgary. The roadway passes through Chinatown, crosses the Bow River, to the Beddington Boulevard, after which it becomes a residential street and becomes unavailable to private vehicular traffic north of Bergen Crescent (the road continues, but it is only accessible to Calgary Transit and emergency vehicles). Victoria Park/Stampede Station
Victoria Park/Stampede station (named Stampede station until 1995) is CTrain light rail station in Beltline, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Adjacent to the Stampede Park, the site of the Calgary Stampede, opened on May 25, 1981, as part of the original line. The station is located on the exclusive LRT right of way, 1 km south of the City Hall interlocking beside Macleod Trail just north of 17 Avenue SE. A pedestrian bridge crosses Macleod Trail from the station towards Uptown 17th Avenue. Stampede Park
