Johann Joseph Ritter von Prechtl (16 November 1778, Bischofsheim, Grand-Dukal Würzburg (today's) Lower Franconia 28 October 1854, Wieden No. 54 (today's Paniglgasse, 4th district of Vienna)) was a German-born Austrian (since 1802) technologist and educator. He is regarded as a pioneer of technical education in Austria. From 1796 he studied philosophy, theology and legal science in Würzburg, later working as a private instructor outside of Brünn, and afterwards as a teacher of natural sciences, chemistry and physics at a secondary school in Vienna (181014). In 1815 he became founder and first director of the Vienna Polytechnic Institute. With Johann Arzberger (17781835), he conducted research of public gas illumination, being credited with introducing a coal gas generating plant at the institute. Georg Anton Rollett
Georg Anton Rollett (2 August 1778 – 19 March 1842) was an Austrian naturalist and physician born in Baden bei Wien, Niederösterreich. He was the father of poet Hermann Rollett (1819-1904). In 1795 he began his medical studies at the Vienna General Hospital, and during the following years took exams in surgery, obstetrics and animal pharmacology. In 1799 he started practicing medicine in Piesting, two years later returning to Baden as a doctor. During his career Rollett amassed an extensive scientific collection that he donated to the city of Baden. Neukomm first studied with the organist Weissauer and later studied theory under Michael Haydn and Leopold Mozart, though his studies at Salzburg University were in philosophy and mathematics. He became honorary organist at the Salzburg University church in 1792, and was appointed chorus-master at the Salzburg court theater in 1796. Neukomm was kapellmeister at St. Petersburg's German theatre from 1804 to 1809, and in the 1810s he spent time in Brazil, South America, where he popularized the works of Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Mozart. He worked at D. João VI's court in Rio de Janeiro. His works had some currency in the nineteenth century: Johann Nepomuk Hummel's op. 123 is a ''Fantasie for Piano'' on themes by Hummel and von Neukomm. ...
