Sir Frederick Falkiner, 1st Baronet
Sir Frederick John Falkiner, 1st Baronet (8 April 1768 – 14 September 1824) was an Irish baronet and politician. He was the eldest son of Daniel Falkiner, grandson of Daniel Falkiner, and his wife Dorothy Faure, daughter of Henry Faure. Falkiner was educated at Trinity College, Dublin and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. In 1804, he raised the 100th Regiment of Foot, and one year later, after the authorisation of King George III of the United Kingdom and the integration into the British Army, he became its colonel. In 1791, Falkiner was elected to the Irish House of Commons for Athy and sat for it until 1798. Subsequently he was returned for Dublin County until the Act of Union in 1801 and thereafter for Dublin County to the British House of Commons until 1807. He stood for Carlow Borough in 1812 and represented the constituency until 1818. Falkiner was secretary to the Order of St Patrick, and was appointed High Sheriff of County Dublin in 1801. Edward Donovan
Edward Donovan (1768 – 1 February 1837) was an Anglo-Irish writer, natural history illustrator, and amateur zoologist. He did not travel, but collected, described and illustrated many species based on the collections of other naturalists. His many books were successful in his time. He died penniless in 1837 leaving a large family destitute. Personal life Almost nothing is known about Donovan's family background, education or early life, although he is known to have been born in Cork, Ireland, and was originally surnamed O'Donovan. He is presumed to have had some independent wealth. His health declined in later years and he died penniless at his home in John Street in 1837 leaving a large family destitute. John Milner Barry
John Milner Barry (1768–1822) was an Irish doctor. Life Barry was the eldest son of James Barry of Kilgobbin near Bandon, County Cork. In 1792 he graduated with an MD from the University of Edinburgh, and practised medicine at Cork until his death. He introduced vaccination into Cork in 1800, and thus was the first to make it known to any Irish city. In 1802 he founded the Cork Fever Hospital and House of Recovery and was its first physician. He held the lectureship on agriculture in the Royal Cork Institution for many years, and resigned the post in 1815. He married Mary, eldest daughter of William Phair of Brooklodge near Cork in 1808, and died in 1822. In 1824 a monument with a long laudatory inscription was erected to his memory in the grounds of the Fever Hospital by his fellow-townsmen. A member of the O'Lawlor clan, he was a cousin of Patrick "Patt" Lalor (1781–1856), one time nationalist MP for Queen's County and father of Peter Lalor, the Australian revolutionary and politician, and also of Alice Lalor (1769–1846), founder of the Order of Visitation Nuns in the United States. British Whig Party
The Whigs were a political faction and then a political party in the Parliaments of England, Scotland, Ireland, Great Britain and the United Kingdom. Between the 1680s and the 1850s, the Whigs contested power with their rivals, the Tories. The Whigs merged into the new Liberal Party with the Peelites and Radicals in the 1850s, and other Whigs left the Liberal Party in 1886 to form the Liberal Unionist Party, which merged into the Liberals' rival, the modern day Conservative Party, in 1912. The Whigs began as a political faction that opposed absolute monarchy and Catholic Emancipation, supporting constitutional monarchism with a parliamentary system.
