Frederick V Of Denmark
Frederick V (Danish and Norwegian: ''Frederik V''; 31 March 1723 – 14 January 1766) was King of Denmark–Norway and Duke of Schleswig-Holstein from 6 August 1746 until his death in 1766. He was the son of Christian VI of Denmark and Sophie Magdalene of Brandenburg-Kulmbach. Although the personal influence of Frederick was limited, his reign was marked by the progress of commerce and trade, and art and science prospered under his reign. Unlike his parents who were deeply devoted to Pietism, Frederick grew into a hedonist. As regent, he took part in the conduct of government by attending council meetings, but he was afflicted by alcoholism and most of his rule was dominated by able ministers who were influenced by the ideas of the Age of Enlightenment. Jens Schou Fabricius
Jens Schou Fabricius (3 March 1758 – 6 April 1841) was the Norwegian appointed Minister of the Navy 1817–1818. He served as a representative for ''Søe-Deffensionen'' at the Norwegian Constitutional Assembly at Eidsvoll in 1814. During his naval career he served first the Danish Crown until the separation in 1814 of Norway from Denmark, and thereafter the Norwegian-Swedish Crown. Fabricius retired from the navy as a vice admiral. Background Jens Schou Fabricius was born in Larvik, Norway. He was the son of District Judge Laurs Sørensen Fabricius (1695-1761). Magdalene Sophie Buchholm
Magdalene Sophie Buchholm (15 March 1758 – 12 August 1825) was an 18th-century Norwegian poet. She was the only acknowledged female Norwegian writer of her time, and the only female in the academic society Det Norske Selskab. Biography Magdalene Buchholm was born in Skien in Telemark, Norway. She was the daughter of mayor Mogens Bentsen (1715–70) and Sophie Hellesdatter (1720–98). After his father's death in 1770, she lived for several years at Buskerud Manor (''Buskerud Hovedgård'') with her cousin Johanne Henrikke Ancher (1750–1812), who was the second wife of the owner Peter Collett (1740–86). She married vicar Peter Leganger Castberg (1752–1784) in 1777. In 1781 her husband was appointed parish priest in Flekkefjord, where he died three years later. Nils Christian Frederik Hals (April 23, 1758 – June 27, 1838)''Danmarks adels aarbog''. 1897. Volume 14. Copenhagen, p. 173. was a Norwegian military officer with the rank of lieutenant colonel. Hals was born in Eidsberg. In March 1814 he was named commander of Fredrikstad Fortress after the commander at the time had declared the fortress to be in such poor condition that it could not be defended in the event of an attack. Hals was of the same opinion and was not eager to take on the position. He received a verbal assurance from the regent of Norway, Christian Fredrik, that the fortress would not be defended if it were attacked. In 1814, the fortress was attacked and encircled by Swedish forces. Among other things, they had landed at Tangen at the southern tip of Kråkerøy and advanced to a position later named Svenskeberget (literally, 'Swedish hill') southwest of the fortress. Hans Egede
Hans Poulsen Egede (31 January 1686 – 5 November 1758) was a Dano-Norwegian Lutheran missionary who launched mission efforts to Greenland, which led him to be styled the Apostle of Greenland. He established a successful mission among the Inuit and is credited with revitalizing Dano-Norwegian interest in the island after contact had been broken for about 300 years. He founded Greenland's capital Godthåb, now known as Nuuk. Background Hans Egede was born into the home of a civil servant in Harstad, Norway, nearly north of the Arctic Circle. His paternal grandfather had been a vicar in Vester Egede on southern Zealand, Denmark. Hans was schooled by an uncle, a clergyman in a local Lutheran Church. In 1704 he travelled to Copenhagen to enter the University of Copenhagen, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Theology.
