Louis XV
Louis XV (15 February 1710 – 10 May 1774), known as Louis the Beloved (french: le Bien-Aimé), was King of France from 1 September 1715 until his death in 1774. He succeeded his great-grandfather Louis XIV at the age of five. Until he reached maturity (then defined as his 13th birthday) on 15 February 1723, the kingdom was ruled by his grand-uncle Philippe II, Duke of Orléans, as Regent of France. Cardinal Fleury was chief minister from 1726 until his death in 1743, at which time the king took sole control of the kingdom. His reign of almost 59 years (from 1715 to 1774) was the second longest in the history of France, exceeded only by his predecessor, Louis XIV, who had ruled for 72 years (from 1643 to 1715). In 1748, Louis returned the Austrian Netherlands, won at the Battle of Fontenoy of 1745. Jacques Beaufranchet
Jacques de Beaufranchet, ''Seigneur d'Ayat'', was born 5 March 1728. His sister Amable married Gilbert Antoine des Aix, ''seigneur de Veygoux'', and was mother to the famous General Desaix, who died at the Battle of Marengo in 1800. Beaufranchet was captain to the major's aide for the Beauvoisis regiment. On 25 November 1755 he was married to Marie-Louise O'Murphy, "la belle Morphyse", who had been one of King Louis XV's mistresses. O'Murphy was born in Rouen, Normandy, to a family of Irish origin with known criminal pasts. Louise Marie d'OrléansSome documents call her Louise ''Madeleine'' d'Orléans. (5 August 1726 – 14 May 1728) was a French Prince du Sang, princess of the blood by birth. She died in infancy. Biography Louise Marie d'Orléans was born at the Palais-Royal to Louis, Duke of Orléans (1703–1752), Louis d'Orléans, Duke of Orléans and his Duchess, the Margravine Johanna of Baden-Baden, who died three days after giving birth. Her father was a second cousin of the then King Louis XV of France, Louis XV, and a great-grandson of Louis XIII. Her mother was the last child of the famous general Louis William, Margrave of Baden-Baden. Louise Marie was initially known at court as ''Mademoiselle d'Orléans'' and, after the death of her father's first cousin Louise Anne de Bourbon, as ''Miss, Mademoiselle''. Marin Marais
Marin Marais (; 31 May 1656, in Paris – 15 August 1728, in Paris) was a French composer and viol player. He studied composition with Jean-Baptiste Lully, often conducting his operas, and with master of the bass viol Monsieur de Sainte-Colombe for six months. In 1676 he was hired as a musician to the royal court of Versailles and was moderately successful there, being appointed in 1679 as ''ordinaire de la chambre du roy pour la viole,'' a title he kept until 1725. He was the father of the composer Roland Marais (c. 1685 – c. 1750). Career Marin Marais was a master of the viol, and the leading French composer of music for the instrument. He wrote five books of '' Pièces de viole'' (1686–1725) for the instrument, generally suites with basso continuo. These were quite popular in the court, and for these he was remembered in later years as he who "founded and firmly established the empire of the viol" ( Hubert Le Blanc, 1740).
