145th Field Artillery Regiment (United States)
The 145th Field Artillery Regiment is a regiment of the United States Army and the Utah National Guard. Composition Subordinate units The 1st Battalion 145th Field Artillery Regiment is currently composed of three firing batteries a forward support company, and a headquarters battery. The battalion is currently commanded by LTC Chamberlin Neff whose Command Sergeant Major is CSM Brady McDonald. HHB, "Henchmen" is currently commanded by CPT Chase Stilson. Alpha Battery, "Anger", is currently commanded by CPT Morgan Stears. Bravo Battery, "Terminators", is currently commanded by CPT Matthew Johnson. Camp Kearny
Camp Kearny was a U.S. military base (first Army, later Navy) in San Diego County, California, on the site of the current Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. It operated from 1917 to 1946. The base was named in honor of Brigadier General Stephen W. Kearny. History Establishment and early years The camp was established by the Army in 1917 on of land on a mesa north of San Diego. The area included the Miramar Ranch, which had originally been established by newspaperman E. W. Scripps and later sold to the Jessop family. It was Scripps who named the area Miramar, meaning "view of the sea". The new base was named in honor of Brigadier General Stephen W. Kearny, a leader in the Mexican–American War who also served as a military governor of California. Camp Kearny was one of 32 new camps created by the Army in 1917 as a mobilization and training facility for troops on their way to battlegrounds of World War I. 40th Infantry Division (United States)
The 40th Infantry Division ("Sunburst Division") is a modular division of the United States Army. Following the army's modularization the division has become a four- brigade combat team with National Guardsmen from throughout the Pacific/Western United States and Oceania. Its division headquarters is located at Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos, California. After seeing service in World War I as a depot division, it was reorganized as the National Guard division for California, Nevada, and Utah, before seeing service in the Pacific Theatre of World War II. Later, the division served in Korea and some of its units were designated for Vietnam. The division was later reorganized redesigned as a National Guard unit completely within California. Richard Whitehead Young
Richard Whitehead Young (April 19, 1858 – December 27, 1919) was a U.S. Army brigadier general and an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines during the time that the Philippines was a U.S. Territory. Young was born in Salt Lake City in 1858, to Joseph A. Young and his second (plural) wife, Margaret Whitehead. Joseph Young was the son of Brigham Young and his wife, Mary Ann Angell. Young was raised for the first few years of his life in Salt Lake City: in the Beehive House, the adjoining Lion House, and in a house his parents owned on what is now the site of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. As a teenager he studied at the University of Deseret. He was then a teacher and principal in Manti, Utah and worked for the office of the architect of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Combat Arms Regimental System
The Combat Arms Regimental System (CARS), was the method of assigning unit designations to units of some of the combat arms branches of the United States Army, including Infantry, Special Forces, Field Artillery, and Armor, from 1957 to 1981. Air Defense Artillery was added in 1968. CARS was superseded by the U.S. Army Regimental System (USARS) in 1981, although the term "Regiment" was never appended to the official name or designation of CARS regiments, and was not added to USARS regiments until 2005. The United States Army Regimental System (USARS) is an organizational and classification system used by the United States Army. It was established in 1981 to replace the Combat Arms Regimental System (CARS) to provide each soldier with continuous identification with a single regiment, and to increase a soldier's probability of serving recurring assignments with his or her regiment.
