12x12 Original Remixes
''12x12 Original Remixes'' is a remix album by Talk Talk released initially in 1999 and again in 2001 with a new cover and artwork as ''Remixed''. It contains the same songs as disc 1 of the earlier album '' Asides Besides''. It is the band's third remix album, following ''It's My Mix'' from 1985 and the controversial '' History Revisited'' from 1991. The album cover is a collage of various images associated with the band's previous albums. It features the same style Talk Talk logo as on ''History Revisited'', the hanging goose from '' Asides Besides'', the butterfly "face" from ''The Colour of Spring'', the canary from ''The Very Best of Talk Talk'', the tree of birds from ''Spirit of Eden'', as well as numerous other animal related images. A remix album is an album consisting of remixes or rerecorded versions of an artist's earlier released material. The first act who employed the format was American singer-songwriter Harry Nilsson (''Aerial Pandemonium Ballet'', 1971). As of 2007, the best-selling remix album of all time is Michael Jackson's ''Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory in the Mix'' (1997). The Colour Of Spring
''The Colour of Spring'' is the third studio album by English band Talk Talk, released on 17 February 1986. Written by Mark Hollis and producer Tim Friese-Greene, the album combines elements of jazz and art pop in an effort by Hollis to embrace more organic instrumentation and production values. Unlike previous Talk Talk albums, synthesizers are rarely featured on the album, being replaced by guitar, piano, and organ. EMI Group Limited (originally an initialism for Electric and Musical Industries, also referred to as EMI Records Ltd. or simply EMI) was a British transnational conglomerate founded in March 1931 in London. AllMusic (previously known as All Music Guide and AMG) is an American online music database. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. Initiated in 1991, the database was first made available on the Internet in 1994. AllMusic is owned by RhythmOne. History AllMusic was launched as ''All Music Guide'' by Michael Erlewine, a "compulsive archivist, noted astrologer, Buddhist scholar and musician". He became interested in using computers for his astrological work in the mid-1970s and founded a software company, Matrix, in 1977. Spirit Of Eden
''Spirit of Eden'' is the fourth studio album by English band Talk Talk, released in 1988 on Parlophone Records. The songs were written by vocalist Mark Hollis and producer Tim Friese-Greene and the album was compiled from a lengthy recording process at London's Wessex Studios between 1987 and 1988. Often working in darkness, the band recorded many hours of improvised performances that drew on elements of jazz, ambient, blues, classical music, and dub. These long-form recordings were then heavily edited and re-arranged into an album in mostly digital format. ''Spirit of Eden'' was a radical departure from Talk Talk's earlier and more accessible albums. Compared to the success of 1986's '' The Colour of Spring'', it was a commercial disappointment. Despite its mixed reception, the album's stature grew more favourable in subsequent years, with contemporary critics describing ''Spirit of Eden'' as an early progenitor of the post-rock genre. History Revisited
''History Revisited: The Remixes'' is a 1991 album comprising remixes of hit Talk Talk songs. It followed the successful greatest hits collection '' Natural History'', released the year before. The band itself did not take part in the making of the album and condemned its release; consequently, they sued their former record label EMI for using Talk Talk material without permission. Background Talk Talk formed in 1981 and released four albums with EMI. Around the time of ''Spirit of Eden'' (1988), the band attempted to extract themselves from their recording contract with EMI. 18 months of litigation followed. Ultimately, Talk Talk won the case on appeal, and in 1990 they left EMI and moved to Polydor. Soon after, EMI released the compilation ''Natural History'', a retrospective of Talk Talk's career up until that point. Asides Besides
''Asides Besides'' is a compilation album by Talk Talk, released April 1998. It is a collection of rarities, B-sides and demos previously unavailable on CD. It was issued as a companion volume to the band's 1997 album remasters and has been described as "yingup loose ends" in the band's career. The album received positive reviews. The album only contains tracks from the 1982–1988 period, as EMI could only obtain rights for Talk Talk music from this period. An album of rarities for Talk Talk's career after 1988 was released in 2001 as '' Missing Pieces''. Background Talk Talk released four studio albums on record label EMI in the 1980s, as well as numerous singles, an EMI-curated remix album (''It's My Mix''), and several EPs. Though the four studio albums were remastered onto CD in the 1980s (and again in 1997), the singles, remix album and EPs all contained B-sides and remixes that were not republished onto CD.
