1204th Aviation Support Battalion
The 1204th Aviation Support Battalion (ASB) is a unit in the Kentucky Army National Guard that was inactivated January 10, 2016. The unit deployed to Iraq in support of Operation New Dawn (Iraq, 2010–2011) on October 1, 2011. Service in Iraq Following arrival for Iraq War service and the uncasing of the colors on November 3, 2011, the battalion quickly began work, assuming the responsibility of aviation logistics sustainment and support operations from Contingency Operating Site Taji, while simultaneously planning for the withdrawal of the Combat Aviation Brigade, 29th Infantry Division. Kentucky Army National Guard
The Kentucky Army National Guard is a component of the United States Army and the United States National Guard. Nationwide, the Army National Guard comprises approximately one half of the US Army's available combat forces and approximately one third of its support organization. National coordination of various state National Guard units are maintained through the National Guard Bureau. Kentucky Army National Guard units are trained and equipped as part of the United States Army. Combat Aviation Brigade, 29th Infantry Division
The 29th Infantry Division (29th ID), also known as the "Blue and Gray Division", is an infantry division of the United States Army based in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. It is currently a formation of the U.S. Army National Guard and contains units from Virginia, Maryland, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and West Virginia. Formed in 1917, the division deployed to France as a part of the American Expeditionary Force during World War I. Called up for service again in World War II, the division's 116th Regiment, attached to the First Infantry Division, was in the first wave of troops ashore during Operation Neptune, the landings in Normandy, France. It supported a special Ranger unit tasked with clearing strong points at Omaha Beach. The rest of the 29th ID came ashore later, then advanced to Saint-Lô, and eventually through France and into Germany. The Meritorious Unit Commendation (MUC; pronounced ''muck'') is a mid-level unit award of the United States Armed Forces. Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) was the official name used synonymously by the U.S. government for both the War in Afghanistan (2001–2014) and the larger-scale Global War on Terrorism.
