12.10 (film)
''12.10'' is a 1919 British silent film, silent thriller film directed by Herbert Brenon and starring Marie Doro, Ben Webster (actor), Ben Webster, and Geoffrey Kerr. It was the first film made by British & Colonial Kinematograph Company which had ambitious plans to break into the American market. It was made at Walthamstow Studios, and had considerable success on its release. Plot As described in a film magazine, Louis Fernando fails to sell a patent upon which he has spent the better part of his life and drowns himself. His orphaned child Marie (Doro) is adopted by Lord Chatterton (Webster). Geoffrey Brooke (Kerr), who is in the employ of Lord Chatterton, falls in love with Marie. Chatterton's general manager Arthur Newton (Carew) also loves Marie and formulates a scheme whereby he hopes to win her and also acquire the Chatterton fortune. Herbert Brenon
Herbert Brenon (born Alexander Herbert Reginald St. John Brenon; 13 January 1880 – 21 June 1958) was an Irish-born U.S. film director, actor and screenwriter during the era of silent films through the 1930s. Brenon was among the early filmmakers who, before the rise of corporate film production, was a genuine “auteur”, controlling virtually all creative and technical components in crafting his pictures. The quality of Brenon's artistic output rivaled that of film pioneers D. W. Griffith. Brenon was among the first directors to achieve celebrity status among moviegoers for his often spectacular cinematic inventions. Among his most notable films are Neptune's Daughter (1914), Peter Pan (1925), A Kiss for Cinderella (1925), and the original film version of Beau Geste (1926). Walthamstow Studios was a British film studio located in Walthamstow, London which operated between 1914 and 1930. Two earlier studios had previously existed in Walthamstow. It was the base of Broadwest films for a number of years, which also used Catford Studios as an overflow facility. Pierre Maillard (actor)
Abbé Pierre Antoine Simon Maillard (c. 1710 – 12 August 1762) was a French-born priest. He is noted for his contributions to the creation of a creation of a writing system for the Mi'kmaq people of Île Royale, New France (now Cape Breton Island, Canada). He is also credited with helping negotiate a peace treaty between the British and the Mi'kmaq that resulted in the Burying the Hatchet ceremony (Nova Scotia). He was the first Catholic priest in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and is buried in the St. Peter's Cemetery, in Downtown Halifax. Early life and career Maillard was born in the diocese of Chartres, France, around 1710. He received his ecclesiastical training at the Séminaire de Saint-Esprit, in Paris. Frederick Kerr (born Frederick Grinham Keen, 11 October 1858 – 3 May 1933) was an English actor who appeared on stage in both London and New York and in British and American films; he also worked as a major theatrical manager in London. Early life Frederick Kerr was born Frederick Grinham Keen on 11 October 1858 in London, the elder son of Grinham Keen, a solicitor. He was educated at Charterhouse School and Caius College, Cambridge.
