11th Aero Squadron
The 11th Aero Squadron was a United States Army Air Service unit that fought on the Western Front during World War I. The squadron was assigned as a Day Bombardment Squadron, performing long-range bombing attacks on roads and railroads; destruction of materiel and massed troop formations behind enemy lines. It also performed strategic reconnaissance over enemy-controlled territory, and tactical bombing attacks on enemy forces in support of Army offensive operations. Barksdale Air Force Base
Barksdale Air Force Base (Barksdale AFB) is a United States Air Force (USAF) base in northwest Louisiana, United States, in Bossier Parish. It is contiguous to Bossier City, Louisiana, along the base's western and northwestern edge. Barksdale AFB occupies more than east of Bossier City and along the southern edge of Interstate 20. More than 15,000 active-duty and Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) members serve at Barksdale. The host unit at Barksdale is the 2d Bomb Wing (2 BW), the oldest bomb wing in the USAF. Maulan Aerodrome, was a temporary World War I airfield in France. It was located South-Southwest of the commune of Maulan, in the Meuse department in Lorraine in north-eastern France. Overview A small airfield was set up in September, 1914 by the French "Aeronautique Militaire" at "Le Petit Maulan", but soon to be wrecked by a storm and given up. Amanty Airdrome was a temporary World War I airfield in France. It was located northwest of Amanty, in the Meuse department in the Lorraine region in northeastern France (48.527383,5.598371). History The airfield was set up early 1917, with French escadrille C 4 (observation for 2nd Army Corps/French Second Army) arriving on 6 March, and staying until 2 April. Delouze Aerodrome was a temporary World War I airfield in France. It was located NE of Delouze-Rosières, in the Meuse department in Lorraine in north-eastern France. Overview A lease was signed by the Air Service for 210 acres of land on 21 December 1917. Delouze Aerodrome was designed to be the home of four day bombardment squadron, and construction of the Aerodrome did not begin until the middle of April 1918 due to labor shortages, works been done by the 462nd Aero Squadron (Construction), which stayed at Delouze from 29 April to 20 August 1918.
