106th Wisconsin Legislature
The 106th Wisconsin Legislature is the current ongoing legislative session in Wisconsin. It was convened on January 10, 2023, in regular session, and will likely adjourn in the spring of 2024. This is the first legislative session after the Redistricting in Wisconsin, redistricting of the Senate and Assembly according to a decision of the Wisconsin Supreme Court in 2022. Senators representing odd-numbered districts are newly elected for this session and are serving the first two years of a four-year term. Assembly members are elected to a two-year term. Wisconsin State Capitol
The Wisconsin State Capitol, located in Madison, Wisconsin, houses both chambers of the Wisconsin legislature along with the Wisconsin Supreme Court and the Office of the Governor. Completed in 1917, the building is the fifth to serve as the Wisconsin capitol since the first territorial legislature convened in 1836 and the third building since Wisconsin was granted statehood in 1848. Dan Knodl (December 14, 1958) is an American politician, currently serving as a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly. Early life and education Born in Milwaukee, Knodl was raised in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin and graduated from Menomonee Falls East High School in 1977. He briefly attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Career Knodl was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 2008. He previously served on the Washington County Board of Supervisors. Patience Roggensack
Patience Drake "Pat" Roggensack (born July 7, 1940) is an American attorney and jurist. She is a justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, serving since 2003, and previously served as the 26th chief justice of the court from 2015 through April 2021. Her current term expires in 2023. Janet Claire Protasiewicz (; ; born December 3, 1962) is an American attorney and jurist from Wisconsin who has served as a justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court since August 2023. 2023 Wisconsin Elections
The 2023 Wisconsin Spring Election was held in the U.S. state of Wisconsin on April 4, 2023. The featured race at the top of the ticket was for an open seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, which became the most expensive judicial election in history. Several other nonpartisan local and judicial offices were also decided on the April 4 ballot, including mayoral elections in some of Wisconsin's larger cities— Green Bay, Madison, and Racine. Lake Huron ( ) is one of the five Great Lakes of North America. 2023 Chinese Balloon Incident
From January 28 to February 4, 2023, a Chinese-operated high-altitude balloon was spotted in North American airspace, including Alaska, western Canada, and the contiguous United States. On February 4, the U.S. Air Force shot down the balloon over U.S. territorial waters off the coast of South Carolina, on the order of U.S. President Joe Biden. Debris from the wreckage was recovered and sent to the FBI Laboratory in Quantico, Virginia, for analysis. The American and Canadian militaries announced that the balloon was for Observation balloon, surveillance, while the Chinese government maintained it was a civilian (mainly meteorological) airship that had been blown off course.
