Radio broadcasting is transmission of audio (sound), sometimes with related metadata, by radio waves to radio receivers belonging to a public audience. In terrestrial radio broadcasting the radio waves are broadcast by a land-based radio station, while in satellite radio the radio waves are broadcast by a satellite in Earth orbit. Yamba, New South Wales
Yamba is a town in northern New South Wales, Australia at the mouth of the Clarence River. The first European to visit the area was Matthew Flinders, who stopped in Yamba Bay for six days in July 1799. The town economy is strongly based on fishing and tourism, but has a diverse range of influences, due to the 'Sea Change' phenomenon and the large number of baby boomers who are starting to retire to the warmer climates. At the , Yamba had a population of 6,043, but as a popular tourist destination, it can triple its population in the holiday period. In 2009 Yamba was voted the number 1 town in Australia by Australian Traveller Magazine. Yamba is known to have experienced the natural phenomenon known as sea foam. CHTN-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, at 100.3 FM with a classic hits format branded as ''Ocean 100''. The station is owned by the Stingray Group which also owns sister station CKQK-FM. CHTN's studios & offices are located at 176 Great George Street in Downtown Charlottetown. The station was launched on December 25, 1974, originally broadcasting from a bungalow on North River Road at 1190 AM before moving to 720 which was approved in 1987 to eliminate the nighttime interference from WOWO, out of Fort Wayne, Indiana. In the early 1990s, Newcap entered into a shared-facilities partnership with Maritime Broadcasting System Ltd, the owner of the competing CFCY and CHLQ-FM. CFTL-FM, is a First Nations community radio station which operates at 100.3 MHz FM in Big Trout Lake, Ontario, Canada. The station is owned by the Ayamowin Communications Society and is a rebroadcaster of CBC Radio One outlet CBQT-FM in Thunder Bay. CFTL-FM was originally established in 1974 and was the first community radio station in Ontario, established locally with the support of the Wawatay Native Communications Society; its popularity led communities, first at Muskrat Dam then elsewhere, to ask for similar assistance.
