19th Army Corps (France)
The 19th Army Corps ( 19e Corps d'Armée) was a corps of the French army. In December 1870, the Tours delegation created the 19th Army Corps which was formed in Alençon. It was recreated by decree of the JO of August 13, 1874, it brought together the various military units of Algeria. It constituted the nucleus of the Army of Africa. The corps appears to have been disbanded and superseded by the 10th Military Region by a decree of 18 February 1946. 19th Military Region The Army Corps was located in the 19th Military Region of the Metropolitan Army which included the three départements of Algiers, Oran and Constantine, situated in modern day Algeria. The garrisons were principally based in Algiers, Mascara, Tlemcen, and Ain. Elements were also in Tunisia, forming the 'Tunisian occupation division', located mainly in Tunis, Bizerte and Sousse. The XIX (2nd Royal Saxon) Army Corps / XIX AK (german: XIX. (II. Königlich Sächsisches) Armee-Korps) was a Kingdom of Saxony, Saxon corps level command of the German Empire, German German Army (German Empire), Army, before and during World War I. The British XIX Corps was a British infantry corps during World War I. History British XIX Corps was formed in France in February 1917 and fought at the Battle of Passchendaele in Autumn 1917. In Spring 1918 it was driven back 20 miles in five days and found itself in disarray. XIX Corps (United States)
XIX Corps was a corps-sized formation of the United States Army, initially allocated to the Organized Reserves in California and seven other western and northwestern states. Meanwhile, the Headquarters, III Armored Corps was formed at Camp Polk, Louisiana on July 7, 1942 under the command of Major General Willis D. Crittenberger during World War II. It was activated on August 20 the same year at Camp Polk. The XIX Corps was officially disbanded on October 1, 1943 from the Organized Reserves. On October 10, 1943, the Headquarters, III Armored Corps was reorganized and re-designated as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, XIX Corps which formed the activated XIX Corps. XIX Corps was a corps of the Union Army during the American Civil War. It spent most of its service in Louisiana and the Gulf, though several units fought in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. XIX Corps was created on December 14, 1862, and assigned to Maj. Gen. Nathaniel P. Banks, the commander of the Department of the Gulf. The corps comprised all Union troops then occupying Louisiana and east Texas. It originally consisted of four divisions, numbering 36,000 men. Port Hudson In April 1863, the corps was involved in the actions at Fort Bisland and Irish Bend. The XIX Army Corps ( German: ''XIX. Armeekorps'') was an armored corps of the German Wehrmacht between 1 July 1939 and 16 November 1940, when the unit was renamed Panzer Group 2 (German: ''Panzergruppe 2'') and later 2nd Panzer Army (German: ''2. Panzerarmee''). It took part in the Invasion of Poland and the Battle of France. It was formed in Vienna on 1 July 1939, the same day as the 2nd Panzer Division, but was not assigned to any single military district.
