1999–2000 WHL Season
The 1999–2000 WHL season was the 34th season for the Western Hockey League. Eighteen teams completed a 72-game season. The Kootenay Ice won the President's Cup. Western Hockey League
The Western Hockey League (WHL) is a major junior ice hockey league based in Western Canada and the Northwestern United States. The WHL is one of three leagues that constitutes the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) as the highest level of junior hockey in Canada. Teams play for the Ed Chynoweth Cup, with the winner moving on to play for the Memorial Cup, Canada's national junior championship. WHL teams have won the Memorial Cup 19 times since the league became eligible to compete for the trophy. Many players have been drafted from WHL teams, and have found success at various levels of professional hockey, including the National Hockey League (NHL). Kelowna Rockets
The Kelowna Rockets are a major junior ice hockey team based in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. The Rockets play in the Western Hockey League (WHL), out of the Canadian Hockey League (CHL). They play their home games at Prospera Place. The Rockets have won the WHL championship four times and have made it to the Memorial Cup finals three times, winning once. The Rockets captured the Memorial Cup for the first time in franchise history in 2004, the same year they were selected to host the event. The Rockets returned to the Memorial Cup finals in both 2009 and 2015, losing to the Windsor Spitfires in 2009 and the Oshawa Generals in 2015. Bryce Wandler
Bryce Wandler (born February 25, 1979) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender. Wandler played major junior hockey in the Western Hockey League from 1996 to 2000. He was rewarded for his outstanding play during the 1999–2000 WHL season by being awarded the Del Wilson Trophy as the league's top goaltender. Wandler was also named to the 1999–2000 Canadian Hockey League Second All-Star Team. Wandler went on to play three seasons (2000 – 2003) of professional hockey in the North American minor leagues. Jeremy Reich
Jeremy Reich (born February 11, 1979) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. Reich was a grinder known for his physical play and fighting. He currently serves in an assistant G.M and assistant coach with the Canmore Eagles of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). Playing career After playing minor hockey with the Saskatoon Contacts of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League (SMAAAHL), Reich began his major junior career in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Seattle Thunderbirds in 1995–96 WHL season, 1995–96. Zdeněk Blatný (born January 14, 1981 in Brno, Czechoslovakia) is a Czech former professional ice hockey left wing who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Atlanta Thrashers and the Boston Bruins. He was drafted in the third round, 68th overall, by the Thrashers in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. Trent Hunter (born June 5, 1980) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey right winger. He played for the New York Islanders and Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL). Justin Mapletoft (born January 11, 1981) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre. He was drafted by the New York Islanders in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft as their fifth-round pick, number 130 overall. He played 38 NHL games with the Islanders in addition to his four seasons with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in the AHL. Layne Ulmer (born September 14, 1980) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who most recently played centre for Manchester Storm in the EIHL. Pavel Brendl (born March 23, 1981) is a Czech former professional ice hockey forward who last played for the HKM Zvolen in the Slovak Extraliga. He played in the National Hockey League with the Philadelphia Flyers, Carolina Hurricanes and Phoenix Coyotes.
