1999–2000 Utah Jazz Season
The 1999–2000 NBA season was the Utah Jazz's 26th season in the National Basketball Association, and 21st season in Salt Lake City, Utah. During the off-season, the Jazz signed free agent Olden Polynice, then later on signed Armen Gilliam in January. Polynice became the team's starting center as Greg Ostertag played off the bench as a backup to Polynice. The Jazz were now the oldest team in the NBA still led by John Stockton and Karl Malone, who were both selected for the 2000 NBA All-Star Game, which was Stockton's final All-Star appearance. The Jazz got off to a solid 15–7 start, which included a 7-game winning streak, but then lost six straight games between January and February, holding a 29–18 record at the All-Star break. Jerry Sloan
Gerald Eugene Sloan (March 28, 1942 – May 22, 2020) was an American professional basketball player and coach. He played 11 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) before beginning a 30-year coaching career, 23 of which were spent as head coach of the Utah Jazz (1988–2011). NBA commissioner David Stern referred to Sloan as "one of the greatest and most respected coaches in NBA history". Sloan was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009. After playing college basketball with the Evansville Purple Aces, Sloan was selected by the Baltimore Bullets with the fourth overall pick of the 1965 NBA draft. He spent his rookie season with the Bullets before playing the remainder of his career with the Chicago Bulls, retiring due to injuries in 1976. NBA Most Valuable Player Award
The National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Award (MVP) is an annual National Basketball Association (NBA) award given since the 1955–56 season to the best performing player of the regular season. Starting with the 2022–23 season, winners receive the Michael Jordan Trophy, named for the five-time MVP often considered the best player in NBA history. Prior to 2021, the winner received the Maurice Podoloff Trophy, which was named in honor of the first commissioner (then president) of the NBA, who served from 1946 until 1963. Edward Howard "Eddie" Lucas (born July 14, 1975) is an American retired professional basketball player and current production manager for Highland Construction in Fayetteville NC Lucas was taken with the last pick of the 1999 NBA draft by the Utah Jazz. Scott Padgett
Scott Anthony Padgett (born April 19, 1976) is a retired American professional basketball player and current assistant coach for Manhattan. He was formerly the head coach at Samford University. He played for the National Basketball Association's Utah Jazz, Houston Rockets, New Jersey Nets, and Memphis Grizzlies. High school Padgett was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. Andrei Gennadyevich Kirilenko (russian: Андрей Геннадьевич Кириленко; born February 18, 1981) is a Russian-American basketball executive and former professional basketball player, currently the commissioner of the Russian Basketball Federation. Quincy Lavell Lewis (born June 26, 1977) is an American former professional basketball player who last played with the pro club Iurbentia Bilbao Basket in Spain. He currently works as an analyst for Fox Sports North, covering the Minnesota Timberwolves, one of Lewis's former NBA teams. Now coaches the AAU 16u basketball team “Minnesota Heat”. 2000–01 Golden State Warriors Season
The 2000–01 NBA season was the Warriors' 55th season in the National Basketball Association, and 39th in the San Francisco Bay Area. During the off-season, the Warriors re-signed free agent and former All-Star forward Chris Mullin, while acquiring Danny Fortson from the Boston Celtics, and Bob Sura from the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, Fortson only played just six games due to a foot injury. Under new head coach Dave Cowens, the Warriors won their season opener defeating the Phoenix Suns 96–94 on October 31, but their struggles continued as they went on a 7-game losing streak afterwards. Adam Thomas Keefe (born February 22, 1970) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the Stanford Cardinal. The 10th overall pick in the 1992 NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks, Keefe played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1992 to 2001 and in Spain from 2001 to 2003. The 2000–01 NBA season was the Mavericks' 21st season in the National Basketball Association. During the off-season, the Mavericks acquired Christian Laettner and Loy Vaught from the Detroit Pistons in two separate trades, acquired Howard Eisley from the Utah Jazz, and acquired top draft pick Courtney Alexander from the Orlando Magic.
