1999–2000 UNC Wilmington Seahawks Men's Basketball Team
The 1999–2000 UNC Wilmington Seahawks men's basketball team represented the University of North Carolina Wilmington during the 1999–2000 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Seahawks, led by sixth-year head coach Jerry Wainwright, played their home games at the Trask Coliseum and were members of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). After finishing fourth place in the CAA regular season standings, the Seahawks won the 2000 CAA men's basketball tournament, CAA tournament to receive an automatic bid to the 2000 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, NCAA tournament – the first appearance in school history – as No. 15 seed in the South region. Jerry Wainwright
Gerald Charles Wainwright Jr. (born February 11, 1947) is an American former basketball coach. Wainwright served as the head men's basketball coach at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington (UNC Wilmington) from 1994 to 2002, the University of Richmond from 2002 to 2005, and DePaul University from 2005 to 2010. Early life and education Born in Berwyn, Illinois, Wainwright graduated from J. Sterling Morton High School West. He first attended Morton Junior College before transferring to Colorado College and played center for the Colorado College Tigers basketball team from 1966 to 1968. As a junior in 1966–67, Wainwright played in 19 games, shot 50% from the field, and averaged 10.9 points and 6.6 rebounds. In his senior season of 1967–68, Wainwright played 20 games, shot 45.6% from the field, and averaged 9.4 points and 6.3 rebounds.
