1999–2000 LEN Champions League
The 1999–00 LEN Champions League was the 37th edition of LEN's premier competition for men's water polo clubs. It ran from 27 October 1999 to 27 May 2000, and it was contested by 28 teams. The Final Four (semifinals, final, and third place game) took place on May 26 and May 27 in Bečej. LEN Champions League
The LEN Champions League is the top-tier European professional water polo club competition with teams from up to 18 countries. It is organized by the Ligue Européenne de Natation. The competition started in 1963 as European Cup. A change of name and format occurred in 1996, with the competition being renamed Champions League and the final four system being established as the format of choice, for the first time during the 1996–97 LEN Champions League. From 2003 to 2011 the competition was named LEN Euroleague (with the change of name being simply a re-branding) and from 2011 and on LEN Champions League, its current name. LEN Champions League is the most popular water polo league in the European continent. It has been won by 24 clubs, 10 of which have won the title more than once. Aleksandar Šoštar
Aleksandar Šoštar ( sr-cyrl, Александар Шоштар; born 21 January 1964) is a Serbian water polo goalkeeper who played on the bronze medal squad of FR Yugoslavia at the 2000 Summer Olympics and on the gold medal squad for SFR Yugoslavia at the 1988 Summer Olympics. In 2001 he was declared for Athlete of the Year and Sportsman of the Year in Yugoslavia. He currently performs the functions of the President Water Polo Club Partizan and President of the Sports Federation of Serbia. Early life Šoštar was born in Niš to Croatian father Stjepan Šoštar and Serbian mother. His father who hails from the town of Ivanec moved to Belgrade during the late 1950s as an employee of the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) where he remained living after marrying a woman from Niš and starting a family. Jugoslav Vasović (born 31 May 1974 in Belgrade, SR Serbia, SFR Yugoslavia) is a Serbian retired water polo player who played for FR Yugoslavia at the 2000 Summer Olympics. He retired from the sport in 2012 after playing the last season with Red Star Belgrade. His older brother Anto Vasović also played water polo professionally. Aleksandar Šapić ( sr-cyrl, Александар Шапић; born 1 June 1978) is a Serbian politician, and former professional water polo player serving as mayor of Belgrade since 20 June 2022. A member and current vice-president of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), Šapić had previously served as president of the New Belgrade municipality from 2012 to 2022. Šapić was previously a member of the Democratic Party (DS) until 2014, and he later led the Serbian Patriotic Alliance until the merger into SNS which occurred in May 2021.
