1999–2000 Glasgow Warriors Season
The 1999–2000 season is the fourth in the history of the Glasgow Warriors as a professional side. During this season the young professional side competed as Glasgow Caledonians. This season saw Glasgow Caledonians compete in the competitions: the Welsh-Scottish League and the European Champions Cup, the Heineken Cup. Glasgow Warriors
Glasgow Warriors are a professional rugby union side from Scotland. The team plays in the United Rugby Championship league and in the European Professional Club Rugby tournaments. In the 2014–15 season they won the Pro12 title and became the first Scottish team to win a major trophy in rugby union's professional era. The side is known for its fast, dynamic and attacking style of play, using offloads and quick rucks. Defensively the club prides itself on its 'Fortress Scotstoun' where the club play at home. Heineken Cup
The European Rugby Champions Cup (known as the Heineken Champions Cup for sponsorship reasons) is an annual rugby union tournament organised by European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR). It is the top-tier competition for clubs who compete in a predominantly European league. Clubs qualify for the Champions Cup via their final positions in their respective national/regional leagues (English Premiership, French Top 14, and United Rugby Championship) or via winning the second-tier Challenge Cup; those that do not qualify are instead eligible to compete in the second-tier Challenge Cup. Between 1995 and 2014, the equivalent competition was known as the Heineken Cup and was run by European Rugby Cup. Euan Murray
Euan Murray (born 7 August 1980) is a retired Scottish rugby union footballer, whose last club was Pau in the French Top 14. He started his career with Glasgow Warriors before playing for a number of clubs including Northampton Saints, Newcastle Falcons and Worcester Warriors. He also played for the Scotland national team. His usual position was tighthead prop and he was known as a strong scrummager. He is a fundamentalist Christian and throughout his career has decided not to play on Sundays. Career Club Murray played most of his club rugby with Glasgow Southern (now known as GHA after amalgamation with Hutchesons' Aloysians) before he went on to join Glasgow Hawks and then a professional contract with Glasgow Warriors. Dave Hilton (rugby Union)
Dave Hilton (born 3 April 1970 in Bristol, England) is an English-born former Scotland international rugby union player. He was capped 42 times for the Scotland national rugby union team. In his club career he played for Bath Rugby, Glasgow Warriors and Bristol. His position of choice is as a prop. Rugby Union career Professional career During his club career, Hilton won the Heineken Cup for Bath in 1998, as well as league and domestic cup successes for the same club. Danny Herrington
Danny Herrington (25 August 1960 in Tillicoultry, Scotland – 26 May 2005) was a Scotland A international rugby union footballer. His rugby career spanned the amateur and professional era. He played at Tighthead Prop. Amateur career He started playing rugby with amateur club Hillfoots RFC. Both Herrington and John Manson came through the clubs ranks at the same time. Herrington, Manson and 'Budgie' Cairney formed a front row partnership affectionately deemed the 'Tillicoultry Troglodytes'. From Hillfoots, Herrington moved to Dundee HSFP, along with Manson and Cairney. He was a key member of the Dundee squad and drove the club back into Scottish rugby's top amateur division. Alan Brown (rugby Union)
Alan Brown (born 10 September 1980 in Dundee, Scotland) is a former Scotland Club XV international rugby union player for Glasgow Warriors, who played at the Tighthead Prop position, although he could also be used in the Back Row if necessitated. Alan also went on to be a very successful coach after his player and assistant coach days. In 2018 he moved to Strathmore RFC, and in his first season they won the league and gained promotion as well as the quarter-finals of the Scottish cup. Alan then returned to Dundee rugby as head coach for the latter 2020 season. The team competes in the Scottish National League Division One. Gavin Blackburn
Gavin Blackburn is a former Scotland U21 international rugby union player for Glasgow Warriors, who played at the Tighthead Prop position. Blackburn played for Saracens. He started there as an apprentice. Blackburn played for London Scottish till 1999, when he was signed by Glasgow Hawks. He was then called up to Glasgow Warriors. He played in all but one of Glasgow's pre-season friendlies of the 1999 - 2000 season; including the home match against Ulster Rugby and making the trip to Canada to play the Ontario Rugby Union and Uruguay A. The only exception was the final match of the Canadian tour, the Canadian Tri-Continental Tournament final against Edinburgh Rugby, where Blackburn was an unused substitute. Willie Anderson (born 17 September 1967 in Kirkcaldy, Scotland) is a former Scotland international rugby union player for Glasgow Warriors, who played at the Tighthead Prop position. Gavin Scott (born 19 September 1974) is a former Scotland A international rugby union player. He played for Glasgow Warriors and Caledonia Reds at the Hooker position. In August 2021 he will take over as Director of Rugby Development at the Scottish Rugby Union. Dougie Hall (born 24 September 1980) is a former Scottish international rugby union player, who played 151 games for the Glasgow Warriors and won 42 caps for Scotland. Chris Docherty
Chris Docherty (born 14 November 1976 in Scotland) is a Scottish former rugby union player who played for Glasgow Warriors at the Hooker position. He played once in the Heineken Cup for Glasgow, in the season 1997-98 against Leicester Tigers, coming off the bench. Glasgow lost the match 90 - 19 in the Quarter Final play-off.
