During the 1999–2000 English football season, Barnsley F.C. competed in the Football League First Division. Season summary Barnsley qualified for the play-offs and, after thrashing Birmingham City 5–2 on aggregate (with a 2–1 defeat at Oakwell insufficient for Birmingham to best Barnsley over two legs after the Tykes' 4–0 win at St Andrew's), reached the final at Wembley to face Ipswich Town. Barnsley took the lead through an own goal by Ipswich goalkeeper Richard Wright, but goals from Tony Mowbray, Richard Naylor and Marcus Stewart put Ipswich 3–1 up. A Craig Hignett penalty with twelve minutes left gave Barnsley hope, until Martijn Reuser's goal on the stroke of injury time. Barnsley () is a market town in South Yorkshire, England. As the main settlement of the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley and the fourth largest settlement in South Yorkshire. Neil Jason Shipperley (born 30 October 1974) is an English football manager and former professional player who played as a forward. He notably played in the Premier League for Chelsea, Southampton, Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United as well as featuring in the Football League for Watford, Barnsley, Wimbledon and Brentford. Georgi Hristov (Macedonian: Ѓорѓи Христов, also romanized as ''Gjorgji Hristov''; born 30 January 1976) is a Macedonian former professional footballer who played as a striker. Hristov made 48 appearances and netted 18 goals for Macedonia between 1995 and 2005, being the second-highest scorer in the country's history. Michael Nigel Sheron (born 11 January 1972) is an English football coach and former professional footballer who is under-23's head coach at Blackburn Rovers. As a player, he was a striker who notably played in the Premier League for Manchester City and Norwich City. Darren Sean Barnard (born 30 November 1971) is a former professional footballer, manager and coach. Barnard was a wing-back and midfielder from 1989 until 2010 in the Premier League for both Chelsea and Barnsley. Martijn Reuser
Martijn Franciscus Reuser (born 1 February 1975) is a Dutch former professional footballer who played top-flight football in both the Netherlands and England. He made one appearance for the Netherlands national team. Career Born in Amsterdam, Reuser began his career at Dutch club Ajax and, having joined at youth level, made the step up to play in the first team. He was a skilful, goal-scoring midfielder who looked capable of being a permanent fixture in the Dutch national setup. William Marcus Paul Stewart (''né'' Tubbs; born 8 November 1972) is an English former professional footballer who played as a forward from 1991 until 2011. He is currently Head of Player Development at Yeovil Town. Stewart played over 500 games and scored over 250 goals in his professional career and had notable spells in the Premier League for Ipswich Town and Sunderland, and was the Premier League's second highest goalscorer for the 2000–01 season.
