	1999–2000 Arizona Wildcats Men's Basketball Team The 1999–2000 Arizona Wildcats men's basketball team represented the University of Arizona in the 1999–2000 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The head coach was Lute Olson. The team played its home games in the McKale Center in Tucson, Arizona, and was a member of the Pacific-10 Conference. The Wildcats finished the season in first place in the Pacific-10 conference with a 15–3 record. Arizona reached the Second Round in the 2000 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, losing to Wisconsin 66–59 and finishing the season with a 27–7 record. picture info	Lute Olson Robert Luther "Lute" Olson (September 22, 1934 – August 27, 2020) was an American basketball coach, who was inducted into both the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. He was the head coach of the Arizona Wildcats men's basketball, Arizona Wildcats men's team for 25 years. He was also head coach for the Iowa Hawkeyes men's basketball, Iowa Hawkeyes for nine years and Long Beach State 49ers men's basketball, Long Beach State 49ers for one season. Known for player development and great recruiting, many of his former players have gone on to have impressive careers in the NBA. On October 23, 2008, Olson announced his retirement from coaching. Olson died on August 27, 2020, in Tucson, Arizona. He was 85 years old. The head coach was Tubby Smith and the team finished the season with an overall record of 23–10. In the 2000 NCAA Tournament Kentucky was invited as a #5 seed. 	1999–2000 Notre Dame Fighting Irish Men's Basketball Team The 1999–2000 Notre Dame Fighting Irish men's basketball team represented the University of Notre Dame during the 1999–2000 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They finished the regular season with a record of 22–15, 8–8. The team was invited to participate in the 2000 National Invitation Tournament. 	Jay John Jay John (born May 29, 1958) is a college basketball coach, most recently an assistant men's basketball coach for the California Golden Bears at the University of California, Berkeley. He was the former men's basketball head coach of the Oregon State Beavers at Oregon State University. Early life Born in Tucson, Arizona, John's college basketball playing career was as a walk-on player at Northern Arizona University. He also was a walk-on football player at NAU as well.
