These are the official results of the Men's 200 metres event at the 1999 IAAF World Championships in Seville, Spain. There were a total number of 72 participating athletes, with ten qualifying heats, four quarter-finals, two semi-finals and the final held on Friday 27 August 1999 at 20:00h. Estadio La Cartuja (), formerly Estadio Olímpico de Sevilla, officially known as Estadio La Cartuja de Sevilla, is a stadium situated in the Isla de la Cartuja in Seville, Spain. Frank Fredericks
Frank "Frankie" Fredericks (born 2 October 1967) is a former track and field athlete from Namibia. Running in the 100 metres and 200 metres, he won four silver medals at the Olympic Games (two in 1992 and two in 1996), making him Namibia's only Olympic medalist until Christine Mboma's silver medal at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. He also won gold medals at the World Championships, World Indoor Championships, All-Africa Games and Commonwealth Games. He is the world indoor record-holder for 200 metres, with a time of 19.92 seconds set in 1996. Fredericks has broken 20 seconds for the 200 metres 24 times. Douglas "Doug" Turner (born 2 December 1966) is a British former track and field sprinter who competed mainly in the 200 metres. He was the silver medallist at the 1998 European Athletics Championships. His personal best for the 200 m was 20.43 seconds, set in 1996. Matt Shirvington (born 25 October 1978) is an Australian former athlete and television presenter who held the Australian 100m national sprint title from 1998 to 2002. Shirvington is the third fastest Australian sprinter of all time. He qualified for the 100m semi-finals in Sydney 2000, finishing 5th. Shirvington is currently co-host of the Seven Network's breakfast television program ''Sunrise'' alongside Natalie Barr. Renward Wells
Renward Ricardo Wells (born 23 February 1970) is a Bahamian politician and retired sprinter who has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bamboo Town from 2012 to 2021. In sprinting, he specialized in the 100 metres. He competed at the Carifta Games in 1986 in Guadeloupe where he won a bronze medal in the 400 meters. He also competed in Carifta Jamaica 1988 and in Barbados in 1989. In May 1989 Wells helped the Boise State University Broncos to their first Track and field Big Sky Conference title in 22 years. He competed at the Olympic Games in 1996 and 2000 and the World Championships in 1995, 1997, 1999 and 2001 without reaching the finals. Patrick Stevens (born 31 January 1968 in Leut) is a retired sprinter from Belgium. He won the bronze medal in the 200 metres at the 1994 European Championships in Helsinki and a silver medal in the 200 m at the 2000 European Indoor Championships. He earned selection for four consecutive Olympic Games for his native country, although he was unable to compete at Sydney 2000 due to injury. Glenn Smith (athlete)
Grafton Glenard Smith (April 25, 1895 – October 6, 1949) was a Canadian ice hockey player who played nine games in the National Hockey League during the 1921–22 season for the Toronto St. Pats, and won the Stanley Cup with the team. The rest of his career, which lasted from 1915 to 1922, was spent in the Ontario Hockey Association senior league. Born in Meaford, Ontario, Smith played junior hockey in Woodstock from 1910 to 1914, when he left to military service. After his return, he played senior hockey in Toronto until 1921. After his hockey career ended, he retired to the township of East York, in Ontario. In 1949, Glenn Smith died suddenly at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto. He was buried October 13, 1949 at Mount Hope Cemetery in Toronto. He had been an editor and publisher of a magazine in the final years of his life. Marlon Ronald Devonish, (born 1 June 1976) is an English former Sprint (running), sprinter who competed in the 100 metres and 200 metres.
