Hammer Throw
The hammer throw is one of the four throwing events in regular track and field competitions, along with the discus throw, shot put and javelin. The "hammer" used in this sport is not like any of the tools also called by that name. It consists of a metal ball attached by a steel wire to a grip. The size of the ball varies between men's and women's competitions. History With roots dating back to the 15th century, the contemporary version of the hammer throw is one of the oldest of Olympic Games competitions, first included at the 1900 games in Paris, France (the second Olympiad of the modern era). Its history since the late 1960s and legacy prior to inclusion in the Olympics has been dominated by Europe and Eastern European influence, which has affected interest in the event in other parts of the world. Alexandros Papadimitriou ( el, Αλέξανδρος Παπαδημητρίου; born 18 June 1973) is a Greek hammer thrower. His personal best throw is 80.45 metres, achieved in July 2000 in Athens. András Haklits
András Haklits (born 23 September 1977) is a Croatian hammer thrower and bobsledder. He represented Hungary until July 1998. He finished tenth at the 2006 European Athletics Championships and eighth at the 2008 Olympic Games. In addition he competed at the World Championships in 1999, 2005 and 2007 and the Olympic Games in 2000 and 2004 without reaching the final. His personal best is 80.41 metres, achieved in May 2005 in Marietta. He worked for Doyle Sports Management whilst living in Athens, Georgia, where he graduated in economics from the University of Georgia, and he now works for Babinyecz Management in Budapest. Since 2009, Haklits has competed as a bobsledder. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, he finished 20th in the four-man event. Szymon Jerzy Ziółkowski (; born 1 July 1976 in Poznań) is a retired Poland, Polish hammer thrower and an Olympic Games, Olympic gold medal winner from 2000 Summer Olympics, Sydney 2000. He also won a gold medal at the 2001 World Championships in Athletics, 2001 World Championships in Edmonton with a career best throw of 83.38 metres, and two silvers at the 2005 World Championships in Athletics, 2005 and 2009 World Championships in Athletics, 2009 editions in Helsinki and Berlin respectively. Raphaël Piolanti
Raphaël Piolanti (born 14 November 1967 in Metz) is a retired male hammer thrower from France. His personal best throw is 79.68 metres, achieved in September 1992 in Bourgoin-Jallieu. This was a French records in athletics, French record at that time. In November 1993 he was found guilty of sexual assault on fellow athletes Catherine Moyon de Baecque and Michelle Rouveyrol. He allegedly raped them during an athletics camp in August 1991. Piolanti is now president and coach in Athletic Club Amneville – the athletic club he has been in his entire career. He has trained several high calibre throwers at the club including Jerome Bortoluzzi, Maxime Maier, Quentin Bigot, and Bruno Boccalate. In July 2014 he was accused of supporting the doping of athletes, including Quentin Bigot. Balázs Kiss (; born 21 March 1972) is a retired Hungarian hammer thrower. He is the 1996 Olympic champion and the 1998 European Championships silver medalist, and has two fourth places from World Championships. Andrey Hakimovich Abduvaliyev (russian: Андрей Хакимович Абдувалиев; born 30 June 1966) is a former Soviet, Tajikistani, and Uzbekistani hammer thrower. He won a gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics while representing the Unified Team. After competing for USSR he chose to represent Tajikistan when USSR was dissolved. Lance Deal
Lance Earl Deal (born August 21, 1961 in Riverton, Wyoming) is a former American athlete who won a silver medal in the hammer throw in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. He also competed in the 1988, 1992, and 2000 Summer Olympics. In the hammer throw finals at the 1996 Olympic Games, only the top eight competitors after three throws were awarded three additional throws. Deal fouled his first two throws; his third equaled the eighth longest throw of the competition. However, he was only in ninth place, because the other competitor had a second legal throw. The announcer initially stated that, on the basis of that tiebreaker, Deal was out of the rest of the competition. The officials corrected the error, however; IAAF rules do not call for breaking ties in this case. Nicola Vizzoni (born 4 November 1973 in Pietrasanta, Province of Lucca) is a male hammer thrower from Italy. He won the silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics and ten years later at the 2010 European Athletics Championships. His personal best throw is 80.50 metres, achieved in July 2001 in Formia. He has won 19 medals (8 gold, 8 silver, 3 bronze) at the International athletics competitions. Biography He made his first appearance at the World Championships in Athletics in 1997 but he did not make the final. In 1999 he finished seventh in the hammer throw final and the next year he took the silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
