Discus Throw
The discus throw (), also known as disc throw, is a track and field event in which an athlete throws a heavy disk (mathematics), disc—called a discus—in an attempt to mark a farther distance than their competitors. It is an classical antiquity, ancient sport, as demonstrated by the fifth-century-BC Myron statue ''Discobolus''. Although not part of the current pentathlon, it was one of the events of the Ancient Olympic pentathlon, ancient Greek pentathlon, which can be dated back to at least 708 BC, and it is part of the modern decathlon. Dmitriy Shevchenko (athlete)
Dmitriy Igorievich Shevchenko (russian: Дмитрий Игоревич Шевченко; born May 13, 1968, in Taganrog) is a Russian discus thrower who won silver medals at the World and European Championships. Despite this he did not throw past the 70 metres mark until 2002, when he achieved his personal best throw of 70.54 metres in Krasnodar. His three participations in the Olympics were all fruitless, especially the 2004 edition where he exited without any valid throws. He is a six-time national champion in the discus event. He missed the 1996 and 1997 seasons, due to a doping suspension. Andrew Bloom (born August 11, 1973) is an American former Olympic shot putter, two-time national indoor shot put champion, Athletics at the 1999 Summer Universiade, World University Games shot put champion, and NCAA champion in both discus and shot put. Early and personal life Bloom is Jewish, and was born in Stamford, Connecticut, Stamford, Connecticut. He later lived in Niskayuna, New York, where he attended Niskayuna High School, graduating in 1991. While there, he set a New York State high school discus throw record in 1991, with a distance of 202 feet, 9 inches. Ercüment Olgundeniz (born July 7, 1976 in Izmir) is a Turkish track and field athlete competing in the discus and occasionally shot put. The tall athlete at is a member of Enkaspor, where he is coached by Teodoru Agachi. He took part at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece.
