1999 Ohio Valley Conference Men's Basketball Tournament
The 1999 Ohio Valley Conference men's basketball tournament was the postseason men's basketball tournament of the Ohio Valley Conference during the 1998–99 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. It was held February 23–28, 1999. The first round was hosted by the higher seeded team in each game. The semifinals and finals took place at Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Top-seeded Murray State won the tournament, defeating in the championship game, and received the Ohio Valley's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Aubrey Reese of Murray State was named the tournament's most valuable player. Format The top eight eligible men's basketball teams in the Ohio Valley Conference receive a berth in the conference tournament. After the regular season, teams were seeded by conference record. Bridgestone Arena (originally Nashville Arena, and formerly Gaylord Entertainment Center and Sommet Center) is a multi-purpose venue in downtown Nashville, Tennessee, United States. 1998–99 Murray State Racers Men's Basketball Team
The 1998–99 Murray State Racers men's basketball team represented Murray State University during the 1998–99 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Racers, led by first-year head coach Tevester Anderson, played their home games at the brand new Regional Special Events Center in Murray, Kentucky, as members of the Ohio Valley Conference. Tevester Anderson
Tevester Anderson (born February 25, 1937) is a retired American college basketball coach and former men's basketball head coach at Jackson State University and Murray State University. He is a native of Canton, Mississippi. Anderson earned his bachelor's degree in pre-medicine from Arkansas AM&N University (now University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff) in 1962 and, in 1971, earned his master's degree in biological science from North Carolina A&T State University North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (also known as North Carolina A&T State University, North Carolina A&T, N.C. Aubrey Reese
Aubrey Lamar Reese (born October 13, 1978) is an American former professional basketball player. A 6-foot point guard, he played college basketball at Murray State for 3 years, being named the OVC Player of the Year in 2000. After going undrafted in the 2000 NBA draft he started his professional career in the USBL in 2000, and the following season he was named the USBL Player of the Year. He then moved to Europe, and in 2003 he was the top scorer of the LNB Pro A in France. He has played in several countries in Asia and Europe, including France, Germany, Israel, Russia and Turkey. High school career Reese was born in Auburn, Alabama and attended Auburn High School, where in addition to basketball he also played football as a cornerback. In his senior year he was a 1st team 6A All-State selection by the Alabama Sports Writers Association. The 1998–99 NCAA Division I men's basketball season concluded in the 64-team 1999 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament whose finals were held at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. The Connecticut Huskies earned their first national championship by defeating the Duke Blue Devils 77–74 on March 29, 1999. The 1999 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 64 schools playing in single-elimination play to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball.
