The Senate is the upper chamber of Nigeria's bicameral legislature, the National Assembly of Nigeria. The National Assembly (popularly referred to as NASS) is the nation's highest legislature, whose power is to make laws, is summarized in chapter one, section four of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution. Nasarawa State
Nasarawa State is a state in the North Central region of Nigeria, bordered to the east by the states of Taraba and Plateau, to the north by Kaduna State, to the south by the states of Kogi and Benue, and to the west by the Federal Capital Territory. Named for the historic Nasarawa Emirate, the state was formed from the west of Plateau State on 1 October 1996. Patrick Aga
Patrick Aga was elected Senator for the Nasarawa North constituency of Nasarawa State, Nigeria at the start of the Nigerian Fourth Republic, running on the People's Democratic Party (PDP) platform. He took office on 29 May 1999. After taking his seat in the Senate in June 1999, he was appointed to committees on Ethics, Judiciary, Women Affairs, Commerce, Education, Special Projects and Local & Foreign Debts (vice chairman). In the run-up to the 2003 elections, Aga transferred to the Alliance for Democracy (AD) party in the hope of being elected Nasarawa governor on that platform. Abubakar Danso Sodangi (born 31 January 1954) was elected Senator for the Nasarawa West Senatorial District, Nasarawa West constituency of Nasarawa State, Nigeria, taking office in May 1999, and was reelected in 2003 and 2007. Haruna Abubakar (6 June 1952 – 27 February 2005) was a Nigerian lawyer and politician who served as the deputy president of the Nigerian Senate in 1999. Abubakar was born in Lafia, Nasarawa State, on 6 June 1952. He lost his father at a young age and was quickly adapted by his young uncle, the only person he grew up knowing as a father late Dalhatu Bawa. He is a graduate of the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria were he studied law. Alliance For Democracy (Nigeria)
The Alliance for Democracy is a progressive opposition political party in Nigeria. It was formed on 9 September 1998. At the 2003 legislative elections, 12 April 2003, the party won 8.8% of the popular vote and 34 out of 360 seats in the Nigerian House of Representatives and 18 out of 109 seats in the Nigerian Senate. The party was formed to promote the cause of the Yoruba people in the Nigerian federation following the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election widely believed to have been won by Chief M.
