FINA Water Polo World Cup
The FINA Men's Water Polo World Cup is an international water polo tournament, organized by FINA and featuring eight men's national teams. It was established in 1979, initially taking place on odd years. Since 2002 it is held every four years, in the even-year between Olympics. From 2023 on, the tournament will be replacing the FINA Water Polo World League. Dénes Kemény
Dénes Kemény (born 14 June 1954 in Budapest) is a former Hungarian water polo player who was the trainer and president of the Hungary men's national water polo team from 1997 to 2012. During his reign the Hungarian team won at least a medal in 24 of its 29 major tournaments, including three Olympic golds in a row between 2000 and 2008, making him one of the most successful water polo coaches in Olympic history. Kemény graduated in 1978 as a veterinary doctor. In 1990 he received his degree which made him a water polo trainer, and in 1998 a water polo master trainer. As a player, he was a member of the European Junior Champion team in Duisburg in 1973. Attila Vári (born 26 February 1976 in Budapest), nicknamed ''Doki'', is a Hungarian water polo player, who played on the gold medal squads at the 2000 Summer Olympics and 2004 Summer Olympics. Vári began his athletic career with modern pentathlon but later switched to water polo. He made his debut for the Hungarian national team in 1997. Attila's back hand shot from ten meters in the 2000 Olympic finals against Russia was probably the most unexpected and spectacular goal anyone ever scored in an Olympic final game in water polo. Vári was elected into the presidium of the Hungarian Olympic Committee (MOB) in May 2017. He was elected President of the Hungarian Water Polo Federation (MVLSZ) in September 2018, replacing Dénes Kemény.
