1999 City And County Of Swansea Council Election
The second elections to the City and County of Swansea Council were held in May 1999. It was preceded by the 1995 election and followed by the 2004 election. Overview All council seats were up for election. These were the second elections held following local government reorganisation and the abolition of West Glamorgan County Council. Boundaries There were some changes in ward boundaries for this election. The numbers of councillors changed in some wards, resulting in an overall increase in councillors to 72, as a result of ''The City and County of Swansea (Electoral Arrangements) Order 1998''. Candidates The contests were fought by most of the main parties but Labour was the only one to contest the majority of seats. Gorseinon (electoral Ward)
Gorseinon is the name of an electoral ward in the City and County of Swansea, Wales. The Gorseinon community comprises the electoral ward of Gorseinon and part of the Penyrheol ward. Gorseinon has its own elected town council. The electoral ward consists of Gorseinon town and the surrounding rural areas, in the parliamentary constituency of Gower. The ward and community are coterminous with each other and encompass the town. Prior to local government re-organisation in 1996, the town of Gorseinon was administered as part of the Lliw Valley district. Since 1996, Gorseinon has been governed by the City and County of Swansea council. The ward is bounded by Penyrheol to the north west, Penllergaer to the east and Kingsbridge to the south. Mike Hedges (politician)
Michael John Hedges MS (born 8 July 1956) is a Welsh Labour politician, who been the Member of the Senedd (MS) for the constituency of Swansea East since the 2011 Senedd election. Personal life Hedges has lived in Morriston for many years but was born in the Plasmarl area of Swansea. He is married to Anne and has a daughter, Catrin, who attends Ysgol Gyfun Bryntawe. He attended Plasmarl, Parklands and Penlan Schools, and went on to higher education at Swansea University and Cardiff University. Active in local sport, Hedges has been a football referee and coach, and was secretary of Morriston town for several years. Hedges is president of Ynystawe Cricket and Football Club and is a social member of both Morriston RFC and Glais RFC. Llangyfelach is a village and community located in the City and County of Swansea, Wales. Llangyfelach is situated about 4 miles north of the centre of Swansea, just west of Morriston. It falls within the Llangyfelach ward. To the west is open moorland. The population was 2,510 as of the 2011 UK census. The name is seemingly derived from a combination of 'llan' and 'Cyfelach' (the name of a saint), with a mutation to combine them for Llangyfelach.
