1998–99 Brentford F.C. Season
During the 1998–99 English football season, Brentford competed in the Football League Third Division. The club finished the season as champions after victory over runners-up Cambridge United on the final day. Season summary After relegation to the Third Division at the end of the previous season, the ownership of Brentford changed hands for the second time in two summers, when Ron Noades took over the club as owner and chairman during the 1998 off-season. Noades installed himself as manager and appointed a three-man coaching team of Ray Lewington, Terry Bullivant and Brian Sparrow. Brentford is a suburban town in West London, England and part of the London Borough of Hounslow. It lies at the confluence of the River Brent and the Thames, west of Charing Cross. Brian Sparrow
Brian Edward Sparrow (24 June 1962 – 6 December 2019) was an English professional footballer who played as a full back. Career Born in Bethnal Green, Sparrow began his career at Arsenal, from where he spent loan spells at Wimbledon, Millwall and Gillingham. Football League First Division
The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions. The First Division contained between 12 and 24 clubs, playing each other home and away in a double round robin. The competition was based on two points for a win from 1888 until the increase to three points for a win in 1981. Darren Barry Andduet Freeman (born 22 August 1973) is an English football manager and former professional player who played as a winger and striker, making over 130 appearances in the Football League between 1995 and 2001. Playing career Born in Brighton, Freeman played youth football for Whitehawk and Sussex County Youth, making his first team debut at the age of 16. Tony Folan
Anthony Stephen Folan (born 18 September 1978) is a former professional footballer who played as a midfielder for Brentford and Crystal Palace. Born in England, he represented Republic of Ireland at age-group level. Club career Crystal Palace Folan was born in Lewisham, England. Martin Rowlands
Martin Charles Rowlands (born 8 February 1979) is an English-born Irish former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Club career After starring for Heston Gaels GAA club at underage level, Rowlands started his football career at Wycombe Wanderers, but did not earn a professional contract and joined Farnborough Town in 1997 before moving to Brentford in August 1998 for a transfer fee of £45,000. In five seasons with Brentford, he made 186 appearances in all competitions, scoring 23 goals. After suffering a broken leg, Queens Park Rangers manager Ian Holloway took a gamble on Rowlands and signed him on a free transfer from local rivals Brentford in the summer of 2003. Midfielder
A midfielder is an outfield position in association football. Midfielders may play an exclusively defensive role, breaking up attacks, and are in that case known as defensive midfielders. Augustus Athel Hurdle (born 14 October 1973) is a former professional footballer who played as a defender. Born in England, he represented Barbados at international level. Club career Hurdle began his career with Fulham, but never made an appearance for the team. After a year spent in non-league football with Dorchester Town, Hurdle signed for Brentford in 1994, making 90 appearances over the next four seasons. Robert John Quinn (born 8 November 1976) is a former professional footballer, and current youth team coach. He played as midfielder, predominantly in the centre, but also played at centre back. He represented the Republic of Ireland under-21s and Republic of Ireland B team. Career Crystal Palace Quinn began his career at Crystal Palace, where he came through their youth ranks. Whilst he was learning his trade in the Palace youth team, he was made captain and led out the team every week to win the Southeast Counties League. Darren David Powell (born 10 March 1976) is an English former professional footballer who played as a centre-back. Daniel James Boxall (born 24 August 1977) is an English former professional footballer who played as a right back for Brentford, Bristol Rovers, Oldham Athletic and Crystal Palace.
