The Rockers topped the Eastern Conference, but they were unable to reach the WNBA Finals, losing in the WNBA semifinals to the Phoenix Mercury. Linda Hill-MacDonald
Linda Hill-MacDonald (born August 21, 1948) is an American former women's basketball coach. Career She was head coach at Fredonia from 2013 to 2018 and at the University at Buffalo from 2005 to 2012. She was also head coach at Temple University, (1980–90), The University of Minnesota (1990–97), and the WNBA's Cleveland Rockers from 1997 to 1999. She later served as an assistant coach with the Washington Mystics, the University of South Carolina, and retired from coaching in May 2020 while assisting at Canisius. Originally from Morton, Pennsylvania, Hill-MacDonald has a daughter, Kelli, and a son, Scott, who both reside in the Philadelphia area. Detroit Shock
The Detroit Shock were a Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) team based in Auburn Hills, Michigan. They were the 2003, 2006, and 2008 WNBA champions. Debuting in 1998, the Shock were one of the league's first expansion franchises. They were also the first WNBA expansion franchise to win a WNBA Championship. The team was the sister team of the Detroit Pistons and from 2002 to the 2009 season was coached by Pistons legend Bill Laimbeer. On October 20, 2009, it was announced that the Shock would be moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma to play in the new downtown arena, the BOK Center. Former men's college coach Nolan Richardson was named the team's new head coach. Kim Perrot Sportsmanship Award
The Kim Perrot Sportsmanship Award is an annual Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) award given since the league's inaugural season, to the player who most "exemplifies the ideals of sportsmanship on the court—ethical behavior, fair play and integrity." This is the same criterion used by the analogous NBA Sportsmanship Award, given by the NBA since its 1995–96 season. Every year, each of the WNBA teams nominates one of its players to compete for this award. From these nominees, a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters vote for first and second place winners of this award. First place selections receive two votes, while second place selections receive one. The player with the highest point total, regardless of the number of first-place votes, wins the award. The Women's National Basketball Association Peak Performer Awards are given each year to players who lead the WNBA in scoring, rebounding, and assists. The award has been given since the league's inaugural season, but the honor has varied since then. Raegan Pebley
Jennifer Raegan Pebley ( née Scott; born August 12, 1975) is an American basketball coach and former player. Pebley has been the head women's coach at three NCAA Division I institutions, most recently TCU. Pebley played two seasons in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) as Raegan Scott. A 6'4" forward, Pebley played college basketball at Colorado. Early life and college playing career Born and raised in Orem, Utah, Pebley (born Jennifer Raegan Scott) graduated from Mountain View High School in Utah in 1993. Pebley then attended the University of Colorado Boulder and played at forward for the Colorado Buffaloes from 1993 to 1997. Pebley averaged 8.4 points and 5.6 rebounds and shot .445 from the field in 124 games. Charlotte Sting
The Charlotte Sting were a Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) team based in Charlotte, North Carolina, one of the league's eight original teams. The team folded on January 3, 2007. The Sacramento Monarchs were a basketball team based in Sacramento, California. They played in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) from 1997 until folding on November 20, 2009. They played their home games at ARCO Arena. The Los Angeles Sparks (LA Sparks) are an American professional basketball team based in Los Angeles. The Sparks compete in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) as a member club of the league's Western Conference. The team was founded before the league's inaugural 1997 season began.
