1998 Carolina Panthers Season
The 1998 Carolina Panthers season was Carolina Panthers, the franchise's 4th season in the National Football League and the 4th and final under List of Carolina Panthers head coaches, head coach Dom Capers. They tried to improve upon their 7-9 record in 1997 Carolina Panthers season, 1997, and make it to the playoffs for the second time in franchise history, but failed and finished at a franchise worst 4–12 in 1998 and fourth of five teams in the NFC West until 2001. Dom Capers was fired at the end of the season and replaced by George Seifert. Offseason NFL Draft The 1998 NFL Draft took place at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on April 18 and April 19, 1998. The Panthers selected eight players in seven rounds. NFC West
The National Football Conference - Western Division or NFC West is one of the four Division (sport), divisions of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). It currently has four members: the Arizona Cardinals, the Los Angeles Rams, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Seattle Seahawks. The division was formed in 1967 as the National Football League Coastal Division, keeping with the theme of having all of the league's divisions starting with the letter "C." The division was so named because its teams were fairly close to the coasts of the United States, although they were on opposite coasts, making for long travel between division rivals. Defensive end (DE) is a defensive position in the sport of gridiron football. This position has designated the players at each end of the defensive line, but changes in formation (American football), formations over the years have substantially changed how the position is played. Viliami Maumau (born April 3, 1975) is a Tongan-born former player of American football. Born on Kolovai, Tonga, he played as a defensive tackle for the University of Colorado and was a 3rd Team All Big 12 selection as a junior. The Arizona State Sun Devils football team represents Arizona State University in the sport of American football. Damien Richardson (American Football)
Damien A. Richardson (born April 3, 1976) is a former safety in the National Football League. He played his entire career for the Carolina Panthers from 1998–2004. He played college football at Arizona State. While playing at Arizona State, Richardson received a Woody Hayes National Scholar-Athlete Award. He was also honored as a National Football Foundation Hall Scholar-Athlete, and was a GTE Academic All-District VIII selection. As a senior in 1997, Richardson was a Second-team All-Pac-10 member. Richardson was drafted in the sixth round of the 1998 NFL Draft. Richardson's career with the Panthers was ended by serious injuries to his neck and knee. Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and the defensive linemen.
