Municipal Auditorium (Kansas City, Missouri)
Municipal Auditorium is a multi-purpose facility located in Kansas City, Missouri. It opened in 1935 and features Streamline Moderne and Art Deco architecture and architectural details. Background Municipal Auditorium was the first building built as part of the "Ten-Year Plan", a bond program that passed by a 4 to 1 margin in 1931. The campaign was run by the Civic Improvement Committee chaired by Conrad H. Mann. Other buildings in the plan included the Kansas City City Hall and the Kansas City branch of the Jackson County Courthouse. The plan was championed by most local politicians including Thomas Pendergast and provided Pendergast with many patronage opportunities during the Great Depression. Municipal Auditorium replaced Convention Hall which was directly across the street and was torn down for parking to create what is now called the Barney Allis Plaza. Big 12 Conference Women's Basketball Tournament
The Big 12 Conference women's basketball tournament is the championship women's basketball tournament in the Big 12 Conference. It is a single-elimination tournament of four rounds, with the top four seeds getting byes in the first round until 2011. Beginning in 2012 the bottom four teams play First Round games to advance to the Quarterfinals against the top six teams. Seeding is based on regular season records. The Tournament has been held every year since 1997, except in 2020 when it was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Lynn Pride
Lynn Pride (born October 16, 1978) is an American former collegiate and professional basketball player. Born in Vero Beach, Florida, she attended Sam Houston High School in Arlington, Texas, and during her senior year, she was ranked as one of the nation's top five players by ''Blue Star Report'' and was named an All-American by ''USA Today'', ''Street & Smith's'', and ''Parade Magazine''. Pride was named a High School All-American by the WBCA. She participated in the WBCA High School All-America Game in 1996. Pride attended college at University of Kansas and graduated in 2000. In the 2000 WNBA Draft, Pride was selected in the seventh overall pick by the Portland Fire. After the season, she was traded to the Minnesota Lynx and she played for the Lynx during the 2001, 2002, and part of the 2003 seasons. Angie Braziel (born September 18, 1976) is a retired Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) player, most recently signed to the Washington Mystics, though she retired from the league before playing a game on her new team. She also played two seasons with the Charlotte Sting and one with the Indiana Fever. Her career began at Texas Tech where she scored 1,131 points in three seasons. A single-elimination, knockout, or sudden death tournament is a type of elimination tournament where the loser of each match-up is immediately eliminated from the tournament. Each winner will play another in the next round, until the final match-up, whose winner becomes the tournament champion.
