The 1997 NCAA Division I Men's Swimming and Diving Championships were contested in March 1997 at the University Aquatic Center at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the 74th annual NCAA-sanctioned swim meet to determine the team and individual national champions of Division I men's collegiate swimming and diving in the United States. Auburn topped the team standings for the first time, finishing 156.5 points ahead of Stanford. The Georgia Bulldogs swimming and diving team represents the University of Georgia (UGA) in National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA men's and women's swimming (sport), swimming and Diving (sport), diving. Also known as the "Swim Dawgs," the teams compete at Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Georgia, United States, USA. The women have won seven NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, NCAA national championships (1999, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2013, 2014, 2016). Jack Bauerle is the head coach over both the men's and women's swimming teams. Dan Laak is the head diving coach. History The men's team was formed in 1926 by Clarence Jones and practices were held in the Athens YMCA 20-yard pool.
