1997 Gordon's Gin Boars Season
The 1997 Gordon's Gin Boars season was the 19th season of the franchise in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Runner-up finish Formerly Ginebra San Miguel, the La Tondeña ballclub will be known as Gordon's Gin Boars for the league's 23rd season. The Boars won their first three games in the All-Filipino Cup and were on top of the standings with six wins and one loss after the first round of eliminations, losing only to Alaska on March 2. The Boars finish with the best record of 10 wins and four losses, despite losing their last two assignments. Gordon's Gin and traditional All-Filipino powerhouse Purefoods Corned Beef Cowboys easily made it to the finals and the two most popular teams will play against each other in the championship for only the second time in their history since they last played way back in the 1988 All-Filipino finals, won by Gordon's Gin (then Añejo Rum 65). Robert Jaworski
Robert Vincent Salazar Jaworski Sr. (; born March 8, 1946) is a Filipino former professional basketball player, head coach and politician who served as a Senator of the Philippines from 1998 to 2004. He played 23 seasons in the Philippine Basketball Association. He is widely regarded as one of the best and most popular PBA players of all-time. He was named part of the PBA's 40 Greatest Players and was inducted into the PBA Hall of Fame in 2005. Briar Cliff University
Briar Cliff University is a private Franciscan university in Sioux City, Iowa. History In March 1929, Mother Mary Dominica Wieneke, Major Superior of the Sisters of Saint Francis of Dubuque, Iowa, along with the Most Rev. Edmond Heelan, Bishop of the Sioux City Diocese, co-founded Briar Cliff College after meeting with members of the Sioux City community, who committed to raising $25,000 to support the establishment of a Catholic women's college in Sioux City. The twelve foundresses of the college were carefully chosen by Mother Dominica. They were led by Sister Mary Servatius Greenen, who was named the first president. On September 18, 1930, the college, named Briar Cliff after the hill on which it is located, was dedicated. Fort Hays State University (FHSU) is a public university in Hays, Kansas. It is the fourth-largest of the six state universities governed by the Kansas Board of Regents, with a total enrollment of approximately 15,100 students. History FHSU was founded in 1902 as the Western Branch of Kansas State Normal School, which is now known as Emporia State University. Dennis Edwards (basketball)
Dennis Edwards Jr. (February 3, 1943 – February 1, 2018) was an American soul and R&B singer who was best known as the frontman in The Temptations, on Motown Records. Edwards joined the Temptations in 1968, replacing David Ruffin and sang with the group from 1968 to 1976, 1980 to 1984 and 1987 to 1989. In the mid-1980s, he attempted a solo career, scoring a hit in 1984 with "Don't Look Any Further" (featuring Siedah Garrett). Voorhees University (formerly Voorhes College) is a private historically black university in Denmark, South Carolina. It is affiliated with the Episcopal Church and accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Chris King (basketball)
Christopher Donnell King (born July 24, 1969) is a retired American professional basketball player, most notably for the National Basketball Association (NBA). Born in Newton Grove, North Carolina, King got his start at playing high school basketball for the Hobbton High School Wildcats. He then played collegiately at Wake Forest University before being selected by the Seattle SuperSonics in 2nd round (45th pick overall) of 1992 NBA Draft. King played 15 games for the Sonics during the 1993–94 season, where he made his only playoff appearance. He was also a member of the Vancouver Grizzlies' inaugural season ( 1995–96) for whom he played 80 of 82 games starting in 66 of them, averaging 7.9 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.
